We were delighted to be appointed to undertake a feasibility study exploring the regeneration potential of the former Forfar Swimming Pool.

Drawing on our experience in adaptive reuse, commercial architecture and the redevelopment of existing buildings, we developed a concept that responds to the distinctive character and generous scale of the original pool hall.

The study explores how this building could be transformed into a vibrant games and leisure destination, bringing together bowling, shuffleboard, pool, arcade games, axe throwing, a clay-pigeon simulator as well as food and drink facilities. The concept retains and celebrates the dramatic existing roof structure, introducing new floors and activity spaces to make effective use of the building’s impressive volume.

Successful town-center regeneration relies on identifying viable new uses for prominent existing buildings. This study demonstrates how the former pool could once again become a destination, attracting visitors, increasing footfall and supporting the wider rejuvenation of Forfar town centre and its High street.

The building is now being offered for sale, presenting an exciting opportunity for a purchaser to unlock its potential.

One of our current projects with stunning views along the Aberdeenshire & Angus Coastline. We provided a sympathetic design that follows the form, mass and scale of the existing building coupled with high performance insulation and vapour open construction to provide a very energy efficient building while at the same time managing potential moisture issues common with older buildings of this era. Our client wished to maximise their views towards the coast with large glazing positioned to capture and frame the scenery. At the same time we installed sliding natural timber louvres to combat potential overheating from its South facing location.

At ABRY Architects, we bring your vision to life long before construction begins.
Our in-house 3D visualisations let you explore your design in detail, empowering you to make confident decisions and play a dynamic role in shaping your project.
