We are really excited and proud to announce that OGV Electrical has been nominated for the British Renewable Energy Awards 2026 in the Best Installer category.

To receive recognition like this only 3 years after starting the business genuinely means a lot to us.

When we moved into the renewables industry in late 2024, we quickly saw a gap in the market for higher quality installations and a better overall standard of work. From the start, the aim was never to be the cheapest option. We wanted to build a business that focused on doing things properly, using trusted products and delivering installations we are proud to put our name to.

We started slowly and focused on building relationships with businesses and manufacturers that shared the same mindset and had proven longevity in the industry. Since then we’ve built excellent relationships with Solarwatt, Fronius, Sunfixings and our roofing partners Rooftec Scotland, all businesses that believe in quality and doing things the right way.

Most importantly, we’ve gained the trust of clients investing into their homes and businesses who believed in our approach and supported us from the beginning.

This nomination is something we are very proud of, but it’s also the standard we will continue to push towards every year.

We’re looking forward to heading down to London on the 11th June for what should be a great night, and hopefully bringing the award home 🤞🏻

April 2026 was an excellent month with 3 new Solarwatt Home systems being delivered by Scotlands only current Solarwatt Partner OGV Electrical!

April seen us install 70x 455W Glass-Glass panels, 3x 6kW Solarwatt Inverter visions and 52.6kWh of Solarwatt/BMW batteries across Scotland far and wide including Dunblane, Forfar and Nairn!

This is the first installation to be showcased with the other 2 to come over the next few days 😁

This install seen us coordinate alongside our excellent roofing partners Rooftec Scotland to strip the roof space back and install the 18x panels onto a Sunfixings in-roof Trapezoidal sheet system.

We then carried out extensive electrical works with a full new consumer unit upgrade, cabling ran to inverter and panels with all equipment neatly located outside the home.

Unlike tray-based in-roof systems, which typically offer lower uplift resistance and rely more heavily on the surrounding roof structure, we exclusively use fully engineered mounting systems from Sunfixings. These systems are specifically designed and calculated for each individual project, taking into account site-specific wind loads and environmental factors. This ensures a significantly more robust and reliable installation, particularly important in exposed locations across Scotland.

Sunfixings design process is extensive and factors in wind speeds for the desired location, not just a blanket standard. To back their expertise up they offer full design liability to give peace of mind, this is why we only work with them for all installations we complete whether that be roof or ground mounted systems.

These pictures have been taken before the panels have had the slates worked back in around them, I can’t wait to see the finished result soon!

Since commissioning the system we have seen some great weather and this high usage home has had massive contributions from their system.

Today is a proud day for me personally, as my partner Katie officially starts working with me to help run and grow OGV Electrical.

As a few have asked—no, this does not mean Katie is swapping spreadsheets for a set of tools and retraining from Chartered Accountant to Electrician. There will be no underfloors, no ladders, and no running cables through lofts. Instead, she’s coming on board to do what she’s actually very good at: keeping the business organised, structured, and running properly behind the scenes.

What many people may not realise is that Katie has played a massive role in the business from the very beginning. For the first few years, she has been heavily involved behind the scenes—helping me with admin, finances, and decision-making—while juggling her own demanding career. The difference now is that the business has grown to a point where she’s officially coming on board and, for the first time, actually getting paid!

Since starting nearly 3 years ago, OGV Electrical has grown naturally to a point where it has simply become too much for one person to manage alone. That growth is something I am incredibly proud of, but it also means the business needs more structure and support to keep moving forward properly.

Katie will be working part time to help grow the business further as well as keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. This allows me to focus more of my time where it matters most—on the technical side of our projects, attention to detail, and making sure every client continues to receive the five-star service we strive for.

I’m extremely proud of what the business has become so far, and even more proud to be taking this next step alongside Katie. This feels like the right move at the right time, and I’m excited for the amazing things we can build together.

First stage completed at our second Forfar project.

We’re preparing this classic Forfar cottage for a full in-roof solar installation scheduled for early 2026. The property has strong character and an excellent setting, but it has lacked both energy efficiency and reliable heating. Following a recommendation from the neighbour whose project we completed earlier this year, we were asked to create a full plan to improve comfort, efficiency and long-term running costs.

Stage One:
Installation and commissioning of a 6kW Solarwatt Inverter Vision paired with 18.2kWh Solarwatt Battery Vision. The system is now fully operational and ready for the 18 in-roof Solarwatt panels to be connected next year. By installing the battery system at this stage, the client can already take advantage of off-peak charging, reducing electricity bills immediately.

We also replaced the outdated plastic consumer unit, which no longer met current safety standards. The new Fusebox board provides improved protection, additional capacity for renewable upgrades and a modern, safe electrical foundation for the entire home.

The next phase will be the installation of a high-efficiency air conditioning system that provides both heating and cooling. This upgrade offers several key benefits over the existing oil boiler:
• Highly efficient heating: Modern AC heat pumps produce far more heat per unit of electricity compared to oil, leading to significantly lower running costs.
• Cooling during warmer months: An oil boiler can only heat; AC provides both heating and cooling, offering year-round temperature control.
• Instant, controllable comfort: AC systems heat and cool quickly, maintaining stable temperatures without the slow warm-up times often associated with oil boilers.
• Cleaner, quieter, and low maintenance: No fuel deliveries, no flue emissions and far fewer mechanical components compared to a traditional boiler.
• Excellent pairing with solar: When combined with the new Solarwatt system, much of the home’s heating and cooling demand can be offset by self-generated energy, further reducing running costs and reliance on external fuels.
• Zonal control: Individual rooms can be heated or cooled on demand, improving comfort while avoiding unnecessary energy use.

The existing oil boiler offers none of these advantages and is increasingly expensive, maintenance-heavy and inflexible. The AC upgrade, supported by solar and battery storage, will transform how this home performs throughout the year.

We’re looking forward to completing this installation and using it as a case study to demonstrate how even traditional Scottish homes can achieve excellent energy and heat efficiency with the right renewable design.

Solarwatt Partner Event 2025 – Brentford Stadium

Last week we were invited down to Brentford for the Solarwatt Partner Event 2025. The night included a detailed presentation outlining the plans for the year ahead, a review of the past twelve months, and insights delivered directly by the Managing Director, CEO and CPO. It was clear from the outset that Solarwatt remains a tightly connected organisation — from leadership right through to its partners their is a genuine relationship — a group built on trust, transparency and a commitment to quality over quantity.

A standout moment for us was seeing our Grangemouth project showcased during the annual review as a highlight of 2025 being the first system in Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
