What's that one thing you wish you’d done differently in a renovation.

Whether it’s a layout that didn’t quite work, a colour choice you’d change, or a detail that slipped through the cracks, every project teaches something.

The one that got away…

We designed this bespoke new-build farmhouse in Chippenham, but unfortunately, due to a change in the client’s circumstances, the project won’t now be making it to construction.

It’s always a little disappointing when a design you really like stays on the drawing board, but we thought this one was too good not to share.

The front takes a more traditional approach, designed to sit comfortably within its rural setting. Move around to the rear, though, and it becomes much more contemporary, with plenty of glazing to open up the home and make the most of those surrounding views.

We were big fans of this one. What do you think?

We’ve recently upgraded the quality of the CGIs we provide for our clients, giving an even more realistic view of a space before work begins.

This bathroom is a great example. The CGI allows the client to see how the proposed layout, materials and finishes all work together, and get a much better feel for the finished room before making those decisions for real.

Drawings will always be an essential part of the design process, but not everyone finds it easy to look at a floor plan and imagine exactly how that space will feel.

That’s where visuals like this really come into their own, bringing the design to life and giving clients much more confidence in the decisions they’re making.

One project often leads to another.

We recently completed the design work for the neighbouring property, and after watching the drawings come to life and the build take shape, the owners next door decided it was finally time to move ahead with plans they'd been considering for over 10 years.

This beautiful Bristol home is now set to gain the extra family space it has needed for years. The design has been carefully developed to improve how the house works for modern family life, while respecting the character and charm of the existing property.

SJP turns 10 today.

Ten years ago, I registered SJP as a side hustle after leaving architecture to move into project management for a housebuilder.

For the next few years, every evening, weekend and spare hour went into building the business alongside a full time job. Then, in 2019, I took the leap and went all in.

📸 2019 – A spare room at home, one dog for company and plenty of ambition.

📸 2020 – Our first office in Downend. The step from working alone in a spare room to building a team and growing the business.

📸 Today – Our office on Bath Road. A team of four, delivering everything from planning and building regs for extensions, loft conversions and small sites, through to technical drawing packages for large housing developments.

Having spent several years working within a housebuilder, I understand what technical teams need from their consultants. It’s why we focus on clear communication, responsiveness and getting the details right, whether we’re delivering technical drawing packages for housebuilders or planning and building regulations for homeowners.

Looking back, I'm grateful to every client who's trusted us and every member of the team who has helped shape SJP over the last decade.

Reaching 10 years is something I'm incredibly proud of, but it also feels like we're only just getting started.
