Buxton, full roof strip and re-cover 🏠

Old worn plain tiles off, brand new Sandtoft plain tiles on — and yes, we're a little bit in love with them😍. "Weathered" CR1s on the hips, CR2s on the ridge, so you get a clean line where they meet instead of that nasty bump you see on so many roofs. New leadwork to the stack and fresh plastics all round while we were there.😎

Dexter's been with MCG for around a year now and has quickly become a proper part of the furniture.

Slating is his favourite — "it takes more skill and challenges him more" — and that attitude is exactly why we've backed him. We've just put Dexter through his Restec Flexitec GRP course and will continue to invest in this one!

Unfortunately, this was yet another case of poor workmanship from the past — the original 1800s lead had simply been overlaid with flashband. With lead prices climbing and becoming increasingly unaffordable as a roofing material, our customer made the right call and opted for our Restec Flexitec system, backed by a 20-year guarantee.

Purpose made window, in collaboration with Jack Gregory Joinery 🪟

Not every opening plays by the rules. A standard VELUX wasn't going to fit this one, and we weren't willing to start altering the reveal inside just to make a stock size work — so we had a window made to suit instead.

Built to the exact dimensions of the opening, it goes straight in without touching a thing internally. No compromise, no making good, no "that'll do".

Big thanks to Jack Gregory Joinery for the craftsmanship. It's always a pleasure working alongside people who take as much pride in the details as we do.

Lead day! 🚚

26 rolls of lead landed on site this morning — and yes, it's every bit as heavy as it looks.

Leadwork is one of those things nobody notices when it's done properly, and everybody notices when it isn't. Flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters — it's the detail that keeps water out of a building for decades, and there's no shortcut to getting it right.

Traditional materials, fitted the traditional way. We'll keep you posted as this one progresses.

Throwing back to one of our stone slate roofs in the Hope Valley… because who doesn't love a stone slater? 😍**

We're back 👋 After a busy few months of holidays and being flat out on site, we're getting back to posting regularly — so you can follow the ins and outs of what we get up to here at MCG Construction Group Ltd.

Heritage work is where our heart is, and we can't wait to get stuck back into some traditional Yorkshire stone slating.
