I talk a lot about choice and funeral planning. Mainly because it matters so much.

So many of us, faced with what can feel like a whole barrage of decisions, just freeze. We don't know what's the right thing to do - and we're worried about getting it wrong.

The first thing I do when I visit a bereaved family isn't to ask about music, or poems, or who's going to sit where.

That comes later.

What I really want to understand is what you want the funeral to feel like. What would best honour your person and help you celebrate their life.

That might mean following tradition, or it might mean doing things completely your own way.

Both are right, if they're right for you.

No two funerals are the same, because no two people and no two lives are the same. There is no right way to do this.

There's only your way.

Trust your instincts. Ask what's possible. We're there to help you make it happen.

You've probably seen it by now.

You know, *that* homophobic, ableist response from a certain wedding photographer to an enquiry from two nearlyweds.

HOW IS THIS STILL HAPPENING?

Really - how?

If you were wondering why we still need LGBTQ+ pride, this is why.

If you were wondering why Pride is still a protest, this is why.

If you were wondering why we still need to speak out, this is why.

And if you were wondering whether marriage reform was really needed, this is why.

People need to be able to get married however they want, wherever they want, and by whoever they want - and without fear of being misgendered by outdated language that forces everyone to fit the binary categories of husband and wife.

Or wedding suppliers that really need to do better. A lot better.

The most beautiful sunny day at Leez Priory for Rich and Nilushi's wedding last weekend. The sun was shining, the colours were bright... and the espresso martinis were strong!

Last month, I was talking to a family member who was completely stuck with writing a funeral tribute to his grandad.

It wasn't that he didn't have anything to say.

Quite the opposite.

He just didn't know where to start. How to put together a tribute to the man about whom he had so many brilliant stories.

So took a step back and we sat and just talked. He told me stories and I shared a few pointers and, by the end of that conversation, he had a starting point and a rough idea of which direction he wanted to go in.

On the day of the funeral he was brilliant. Knocked it out of the park.

Did it cover the whole of his grandad's life? No. But then, that's not what a tribute or eulogy is for.

Was it funny? Touching? Loving? Human? All of those. And the look of pride on his face as he finished speaking was priceless.
