Afternoon everyone on this dreary Wednesday 🐪

There will be thousands of these old fuseboxes up and down the country. They are easily knocking on for 60 years old, which also means the wiring will be too. Everything still works fine and may do for some time, however there are significant benefits to upgrading the fusebox/ consumer unit, some of which I thought I’d outline below 👇🏽

* Individual RCBO’s
This means all circuits are protected by an extra sensitive trip that detects the slightest fault, which then disconnects in milliseconds. It also detects earth leakage and an overloaded circuit.
All of which protects against overheating, fire hazards or even electrical shocks.

* SPD’s (surge protection devices):
Protects your wiring and your sensitive electronic items plugged into it, from any sudden surges in voltage. This is quite common after a power cut, a lightning strike or an overload at the power grid.

* Metal construction:
A new fusebox is made of metal, making it fireproof and definitely not capable of melting over time, which you can see had occurred in the second photo.

* A full test and certification:
Replacing a fusebox is classed as 'major works' and therefore a regulatory requirement that the whole installation is tested and certificate provided, which then gets registered with building control.

A full rewire on the other hand, is a far bigger job and although is often necessary, upgrading your fusebox can be a 💰 budget friendlier solution to making your home that bit safer, whilst providing you with a little peace of mind.

Hornsea today in a variety of places!

This morning was some extra sockets, new fronts and new pendants. Put up a light up on my lunch, but not before a quick pit stop to one of my favourite places - Hornsea Mere Cafe

After I’ve been to price up a job, I will be going to put in an outside socket and tidy up a feed to a conservatory. Then it MUST be home time!

☀️ The Bank Holiday is fast approaching and it’s belting weather!

Looks guaranteed to be perfect for enjoying the garden!I love working in gardens; whether it’s new lighting, new sockets, a full summer house or garden room.

This week has seen a fair uptick in calls for wiring hot tubs... personally I would think it be more paddling pool weather but I suppose a nice prosecco in the hot tub later into the evening also does the job. 😂

Whatever you may want doing in and around the garden electrically, dont hesitate to get in touch to arrange a visit, or just for some advice on your ideas.

Also willing to work indoors..... but if it’s gonna be 30 degrees, come on!

God bless the chisel bit! 😂

I am doing a few extra sockets and new wall lights today, into the remainder of the week. Tough brick, so the chisel bit on the drill is a saviour. I have spent many, many a day chopping out sockets with a lump hammer and scutching chisel, so I feel no shame in using a power tool now! I suppose I was a lot fitter at 15yr old... and didnt have quite so many good lunches! 🤷🏼‍♂️

As you can see from the photos its pretty imperative this kind of work is done before any new decoration. If you have a room or two that are due to be redecorated and you think you could do with the odd extra socket here or there, then get in touch. ⬇️

“-It’s the future Gerry!”

Here's a photo of a recent EV Charger install, which now means the customer can wake up to a fully charged car rather than have to contemplate those disgusting fuel prices!

From October it will be a requirement for anyone installing EV Chargers to have the relevant qualification. I got that last week to get ahead of the game so I’m as informed as can be too; also means I have another City & Guilds feather in the old cap.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!

It’s been a while since I set up this page, so I thought I’d just do a little refresher. 🍋

I’m Jason, 🙋‍♂️ a self employed Electrician and owner of J Peel Electrical . I’ve been working as an Electrician for well over 20 years, where I began working with my Dad - way back when I was much much younger and had far less grey hairs!
