Pollarding might look brutal, but when done correctly on suitable species, it's a sustainable way to manage tree size and extend lifespan. Willows, limes, and planes respond well to pollarding, producing vigorous regrowth from cut points. The key is maintaining the cycle – pollarded trees need re-cutting every few years or the regrowth becomes heavy and dangerous. If you've inherited a pollarded tree, we can assess its condition and continue the cycle properly. It's a historic management technique still very relevant today, especially in urban areas where space is limited.
