Large blocks of natural stone arrive at our yard straight from the quarry, ready to begin their journey through Meister. From here, they go through several stages of cutting, machining, shaping and finishing before leaving us as finished stonework.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more of that process, along with some of the people and machinery involved at each stage.

It’s a good way to see just how much happens between a raw block of stone arriving with us and the finished result.

Here is a closer look at our new wire saws in action.

The system cuts large blocks of stone with accuracy and control, while water cools the wire and helps to suppress dust throughout the process. From the control panel, our team monitors each stage of the cut.

Having this capability in-house allows us to maintain close control over quality, production schedules and the finished result.

We’re lucky to have a growing team here at Meister, and over the coming months we’ll be introducing some of the people behind our work.

First up is Gheorghe, one of our Project Managers.

Gheorghe joined Meister a year ago and brings more than eight years of UK construction experience to the team. His day-to-day role involves managing stonemasonry projects, coordinating site teams, planning works and making sure quality, safety and programme targets are met.

For Gheorghe, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing a project progress from the initial planning stages through to completion. He also enjoys the variety that comes with the role, with no two days or projects quite the same.

Since joining Meister, Gheorghe has continued to develop his project management skills while building his knowledge of both traditional and modern stonemasonry techniques.

Away from work, you’ll usually find him spending time with his family or playing football, which he manages to fit in two or three times a week. And when it comes to tea or coffee, it’s definitely coffee.

It’s great to have you as part of the team, Gheorghe.

Our new Breton EASYwire diamond wire saws are now up and running at our production facility in Gloucestershire.

This new machinery allows us to cut stone with millimetre accuracy, while supporting the traditional stonemasonry skills and experience of our team.

For our clients, this means shorter lead times, more flexibility and greater capacity to deliver larger and more ambitious stonework projects.
