‘25 years’ deserves a bit more explanation than a large number on a post.

On our Hartlepool Rovers changing-room project, it means a 25-year material and labour warranty for the roof we supplied and installed, from OSB boards through Lava 20 and the top coat.

If you’re comparing roofing proposals, ask what the warranty covers and keep the written terms with your project documents. The details are more useful than the number on its own.

Old English Dark Red. A longer name than ‘the red ones’, but worth getting right.

These are Marley Double Roman interlocking concrete tiles on the second of our neighbouring Catterick reroofs. You can see the colour variation across the finished slope, with the Smooth Grey roof alongside it.

Two properties, two choices, and a proper look at both finishes over the last couple of weeks.

Before someone works on your roof, you should be able to put a name to the business.

Ours is Wilson Roofing N.E Ltd, based at 4 Bond Street on the Headland. This is the current van to look out for.

We’ve also completed the NFRC membership process, including office and site inspection. It gives customers an independent check to put alongside examples of our work and a clear description of the job.

A smart van is nice. Knowing who you’re dealing with matters more.

The tiles tend to get the photograph. The gutter still needs a mention.

With leaves coming down, watch from ground level for gutters spilling over or water running down the wall during rain. A blockage can be one reason, but it needs checking rather than guessing.

This picture is from our Catterick reroof and shows where the roof meets the gutter. It isn’t a diagnosis of the gutter in the photograph.

If you notice a change at your own property, arrange a safe inspection rather than climbing up to investigate.

A roof tile sample spends a surprisingly small amount of its working life on the kitchen table.

If you’re choosing a finish, look at the sample outside alongside your brickwork as well as on a screen. Light changes how a colour looks.

Some people photograph their lunch. We photograph roof edges.

This is the dry verge on the Catterick reroof: the line of fitted units running along the sloping gable edge. The second picture shows where that detail sits on the whole roof.

It may not be the most glamorous photo on your feed. It’s exactly the sort of thing we like a closer look at.

You may recognise the name on the building behind this roof.

This is our work on the new changing rooms at Hartlepool Rovers Rugby Club. We supplied and installed the full roof build-up, from the OSB boards to Lava 20 and the top coat.

We’ve shown the project before, but this view puts the new roof into context. A local job, for a place plenty of people around Hartlepool will know.

We’ll stick to the roofing. The tackling looks hard work.

Two neighbours. Two new roofs. No agreement needed on the colour.

We reroofed these two properties next to each other in Catterick using Marley Double Roman interlocking concrete tiles. One chose Smooth Grey; the other went for Old English Dark Red.

The side-by-side view is a better colour comparison than us trying to describe it.
