Coastal Partners are a Partnership of five local authorities covering 246km of coastline. We design and manage the construction of new coastal defences, whilst researching critical issues such as flooding and erosion, and maintaining existing sea defences.

Selsey Coastal Scheme Urgent Works - Diversion in place 🚧

We’re starting urgent works to the seawall at West Beach, Selsey, on 1st September 2026 to help reduce the impact of coastal erosion ahead of the winter storm season.

A diversion is now in place, allowing residents to still access the beach while the work takes place. Watch this video to see the temporary route before you visit!

Langstone Coastal Scheme Roadshow 🔔

Next month we are hosting our roadshow for the Langstone Coastal Scheme, ahead of the start of main construction works in April 2027.

If you’re interested in learning more about the upcoming works and what to expect during construction, come along and meet the team at our engagement event.

Temporary Path Closure - Langstone Coastal Scheme ⚠️

We will be undertaking managed vegetation clearance across the project footprint shown in the map below. This activity allows project ecologists to safely relocate protected native reptiles, including slow worms and common lizards, away from future construction zones ahead of their hibernation period.

🗓️ Dates: 24th - 28th August 2026

Part of the King Charles III England Coast Path / Billy Trail will close for one week to allow for these works. Please follow the diversion route as shown on map.

Hayling Island Navigation Marker Replacement 🚧

We will be installing a new marine navigation marker (green triangle) at Sandy Point, Hayling on behalf of Havant Borough Council.

The essential works will be carried out by Suttle Project Ltd and are scheduled to take place on 13th & 14th August 2026. Delivery of construction vehicles, machinery and materials will take place from 7am on 13th. The installation of the navigation marker will take place from 6.30am on 14th to coincide with low tide.

A transit route will be set up between the beach access opposite Bosmere Road and the area of works at groyne 3 opposite the nature reserve. Temporary restrictions will be in place during vehicle movements, under the supervision of safety marshals.

The beach will remain open to the public, but the small work area will be cordoned off. Please pay attention to the safety warning signage and follow the diversions as instructed.

Langstone Coastal Scheme | Reptile Relocation 🦎

Starting today, reptile refuge mats have been placed across designated areas of The King Charles III England Coast path/Billy Lane and north of Langstone High Street as part of preparations for vegetation clearance works later this month.

Members of our Ecology Team will carry out regular checks of the mats. Any reptiles found will be safely relocated to suitable habitat areas before works begin, helping to protect local wildlife and meet environmental requirements.

Please do not move, remove or disturb the mats, as they play an important role in protecting reptiles during the relocation process.

We’re heading to Selsey Lifeboat Week! 🛟

Selsey Coastal Scheme, delivered by Coastal Partners on behalf of Chichester District Council, will be exhibiting at Selsey’s RNLI Lifeboat Week event ‘Stalls on the Green’.

Come along and find out how our tracer pebbles work and how the information they provide is helping to shape the Selsey Coastal Scheme. You'll also be able to learn more about our other projects along the south coast and discover where we'll be next for future Selsey Coastal Scheme updates.

Selsey East Beach Footpath Repairs 🚧

Essential repairs are being carried out to the footpath at East Beach, Selsey on behalf of Chichester District Council.

The works will be undertaken by Suttle Projects and are scheduled to start on Monday 3rd August for approximately 4 days.

We appreciate the unfortunate timing of these works at the start of the summer holidays but will endeavour to complete within the timescale and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The beach will remain open to the public with the small work areas cordoned off.

Please pay attention to the safety warning signs and follow the diversions as instructed.

NOTICE: Marine Parade Railing Replacements 🚧

Works will begin on Monday 20th July 2026 to install replacement railings at two areas on Marine Parade in Gosport.

The works will be undertaken by Suttle Projects Ltd on behalf of Gosport Borough Council and should take about 4 days to complete.

Some essential on-site welding will be required; therefore, protection screens, temporary fencing and diversion routes will be in place around the area of works for safety 👨‍🏭

We had a fantastic time at the CIWEM Flood & Coast Conference 2026 in Liverpool! 💧

Our team fully immersed themselves in networking, attending seminars, and exploring the latest innovations in flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM).

Mark (Head of Policy, Environment and Research Service) joined the panel discussion ‘Coastal Transition & Adaptation: The Only Game in Town’. He shared insights on the urgent future of UK coastal management, sparking fantastic engagement and debate from the audience.

Lucy (Environmental Improvements & Habitat Restoration Specialist) teamed up with Naomi (Principal Heritage Consultant) from Wessex Archaeology. Together, they presented on how heritage preservation and ecological restoration seamlessly integrate.
