Remember, extensions are not always a blessing. Over extended houses with small gardens have limited appeal to families with children. And every street has its maximum value - building on more and more rooms may not be the wisest investment.

Conservative MP Bob Blackman has told the Daily Politics that proposals to to ease planning restrictions in England could lead to people having to "take down" extensions or "scale-back" on them.
