You’ve got to love it when the blue sky comes out just in time for the after photos! ☀️📸

This Willow had a large, dead central stem, so we carefully removed it and pruned the remaining crown to restore balance and maintain the tree’s natural shape.

Another job finished, with the sunshine making the results look even better! 👌

🍃 A little bit of pruning in Fulford last week to provide clearance between the tree and the building, helping to prevent branches from coming into contact with the structure.

As the tree was located within a conservation area, we made sure the appropriate permission was obtained before carrying out the work. ✅

Hedge reduction experts 👍🏻

We love a good hedge reduction, and this one was certainly overdue!

This time of year is perfect time for your hedge reductions, as we won’t have to reschedule due to having no nesting birds 🐦

Hedge renovation time!

This massive laurel hedge was way too overgrown which made it really difficult to maintain. The good thing about laurels is you can prune them right back to a framework and they will regenerate, forming a much lower hedge.

The picture shows only a small part of this job, but you get the idea 👌 🍃 The residents of the nearby houses were over the moon with the result 😄

We recently carried out some pruning on this mature oak to encourage retrenchment — a long-term pruning strategy used to help veteranise older trees 🌳

Rather than simply reducing the tree, retrenchment aims to gradually encourage the crown to become smaller and create features which help biodiversity.

It’s all about working with the tree’s natural biology 👌

Big dead birch tree I distmantle the other week 🌳

Once a tree dies, it loses its natural defences against decay organisms. Fungi, bacteria and insects can then start breaking down the wood, gradually reducing its strength until eventually the tree or individual branches can fail.

Luckily this one had only been dead a year so it was ok to climb up halfway for dismantling, and was removed before it became a bigger problem 👌
