At our Bay House in Dulwich we have what the name says…. A gorgeous corner bay window that extends the room by popping out a window space at the back and to the side. Bay windows by their nature give you that extra little bit more space and are lovely to sit in - a perfectly framed seat.

The bay window here sits on the corner of the house so that I can be seen from the front door, kitchen and sitting room. You can see people having dinner from the rear sitting room looking from inside to outside to inside.

We needed to support the house above and so the column clad in timber feels like a solid and reassuring feature within the dining area. We love seeing how a house is made and supported.

The sliding windows swoosh open to hop outside if you are a little one or for opening up the conversation between inside and outside.

Our Bay House in Dulwich.

A project that brings the cooking, dining, living and outdoor spaces together through a design that focuses on connection: both visual and physical.

This was a full refurbishment of a large Victorian house set within the Dulwich Estate. The corner bay window was introduced to connect the new dining room back to the original rear reception room. It introduces views diagonally across the building - when the windows slide open you feel as though you are sitting in the garden.

Inside our Vaulted House Extension.

We didn’t want to settle for a box extension with a flat roof as the roof on the main house was so much a part of its character. We could also use the space and volume created by the roofs to create a much bigger space inside whilst reducing its size and impact on the garden and the original house.

Hipped and pitched roofs have a great way of doing that - they appear smaller as the walls don’t seem so tall as the roof comes down closer to the ground.

In order to make sure there was still light back to the play room we introduced a rooflight and kept the view through so you can easily hear ‘Dinners ready.’

Excited to share pics of our Vaulted House project in Camberwell.

Set within a Conservation area, this fun, deeply personal transformation of a late Victorian home marks our second time working with these brilliant clients.

Designing for a couple with three young kids - and always having that established trust - meant we could skip the polite introductions and dive straight into creating a space with personality.

Details from the back of our Lambeth Town House project. The rear extension to the old house 🏠 provides a wide dining room looking out over the garden. A central curved column supports the roof above that folds up towards the sky. Timber doors sit to either side of the smooth column, contrasting with the textured profile of the roof.

A garden studio sits quietly at the end of the garden via a winding path - a work haven within the landscape.

At university when studying architecture I used to HATE floor plans with any form of curve in them. I don’t know why? Maybe it’s because I hated using the blue curly curve drawing tool for my ink drawings? But they never sat well with me - I think I was just so used to an orthogonal set of spaces. As I’ve got older and designed more and more - I’ve discovered how curves and round things just work so well in spaces - they remove the hard corners, they blur spaces with one another, they create impact as they are more unusual. They feel more natural. Now there is always a balance and it’s nice to mix the two - curves and orthogonal spaces.

So this is the Lambeth Town House where we extended the square room plan towards the garden - creating relief to the 90 degree corners of the space. And let’s just imagine how beautiful the shadows are that are cast across the dining room - like soft scoops of ice cream 🍦.

The extension at our Lambeth Town House 🏠- where we fully refurbished the house that had been converted previously into flats. The garden level of the house has the kitchen and living spaces but they had a low head height and were quite dark.

We designed the extension to lift the head height and let that pop in space flow through and benefit the existing spaces.

The dining room is full width facing the garden. The full height timber doors sit either side of a curved column that supports the roof above. Simple and elegant was the brief with the garden view being the hero of the space.

Mid century furniture and lighting brings a different character to the Victorian spaces. A large circular rooflight brings lots of light into the dining room and kitchen.

For our pool house project we have been considering how the building relates to the wider mature garden. That’s not only how it works in the daytime but also the evening. How the building sits alongside its natural environment is important to consider, we are sinking it into the landscape as well as overhanging the roof to provide solar shading for the windows.

We are working on some designs for a lovely listed cottage at the moment. The house is compact and was built at the turn of the 20th century. We have been working with the council to look at how to extend into the existing attic spaces. Looking forward to getting this into planning this month.

The Lambeth Townhouse extension at garden level has two oversized doors that take you from the dining room into the kitchen.

The ceiling in the new dining room folds up once it reaches the windows - guiding your view up and out towards the garden and the sky.

The curves central column supports the winged shaped green roof above.
