We are on site with our Islington Vicarage project at the moment. This amazing house was the vicarage for a church that was demolished in the 1950’s. We are converting it into a family home 🏠 that has living spaces across the upper and lower ground floors with a double height timber framed snug looking out over the garden.

We have been working on some exciting design proposals for a new Pool House just outside of London. It’s a challenging site - effectively a little island between two streams/ rivers that run through a historic mill house.

We are developing the design for our Islington House 🏠 project in the studio at the moment. Currently we are focusing on the glulam structure for the extension at the back of the house. This is replacing a little closest wing that previously blocked the connection between the house and the garden.

This new space is double height with a comfy sofa for day time snoozes or night time socials. A bar under the staircase supports this new social space with epic views across the garden.

The double height space at our Wandsworth Villas project is coming along nicely. The new staircase down to the lower ground floor levels has been relocated to the back of the house to better connect the upper and lower ground floors to the garden.

A new curved timber staircase winds down to a hidden bar area - perfect for winter and summer parties.

We are currently modelling the staircase in the studio ready for fabrication in the workshop. We are building this project in house as well so a fully joined up service getting us to site quicker and the family back in the house.

Sketch ideas for alterations and extensions to a house in a Conservation area in SE London. The family wanted us to picture two ways of living:

1) kitchen and dining on the raise ground floor with sitting room on the lower ground floor level

Or

2) relocating the kitchen and dining space down to the lower ground floor level with sitting space above.

This was our take on option 2. To maximise floor to ceiling heights we kept the lower ground floor level partially submerged in the garden. The garden height gives us a great seat back to the dining area and easy access to the garden.

I don’t often post site photos on the grid - I know that this is reserved for generally sexy images and final photos. HOWEVER - I wanted to share the love for this epic alteration to a locally listed building. No extension needed - just wonderful tweaks to an already handsome building.

We are removing the floor plate between the upper and lower ground floors forming a double height space with a staircase down to the garden and party basement.

This space means so much to the other social and family spaces that connect to it. Architecture is as much about feels of a space as looks - and this feels amazing.

This took all parts of our studio: Design (idea in the first place) - Build (forming the opening) - Joinery (making the arched door liner to create the crisp finish internally for the window to fix against.

Sketch ideas for a project in SE London where we have the classic issue of how to get you from a raised upper floor down to the garden in a flowing and comfortable space way. In this design we have been working out how to use the little outrigger to the rear to form a new staircase that stops off via the garden. A sunken lower ground floor level sits facing the garden.

A raised window from this new sitting room catches views of little legs as they race from the house into the garden.

Some colour studies for a bathroom design for our new build house in SE London. Playing around with tone and finishes. Micro cement on the floor and upper walls - a lovely glossy tile on the lower sections of wall.

Would you go for green or pinky tones for the upper walls?
