From a little dairy slipping into ruin to a light-filled two-bedroom bungalow.

The smallest building in this farmyard is now one of three new homes we created from the original farm buildings, all now completed and let out.

The original roof was beyond rescue, so it was carefully rebuilt with new tiles, while the interiors were finished to a high standard and heated by a heat pump.

Most importantly, this is the finished home: lived in, settled into its surroundings and giving a neglected building a new lease of life.

Almost complete: transforming Long Cottage from a tiny 550 sq ft cottage into a country house. A previous post-war extension made it 30 m long but barely 3.3 m wide, resulting in an impractical layout. Working with our clients to realise their dream, we rethought the layout and extended the property across its full width, growing from 2,900 to over 5,000 sq ft.

Despite its conservation area setting, planning permission was granted without issue, aided by ecology and heritage reports prepared from the start.

Knapped flint, Scottish Russwood, slate and aluminium define our contemporary extension to a Victorian gatehouse near Newbury. Each material was approved through planning and chosen to feel modern yet sympathetic to the original building and its idyllic garden setting. Inside, the work is now complete; externally, just a few finishing details remain, including timber boards to close the cavities around the ground floor openings.

A distinctive 1980s home, originally designed as a pioneering passive solar house, has been transformed with a new triple-glazed extension.

The enlarged gallery opens the home to its walled garden, bringing in more space, light and uninterrupted views.

Careful consideration of solar gain and daylight means the space can be enjoyed year-round, without becoming a greenhouse in warmer months.

Now at planning: four contemporary family homes for a compact site outside Cambridge.
Working with a proactive developer who sought us out for our contemporary eco-designs, the scheme maximises a tight plot, using a robust acoustic wall to buffer the gardens from the dual carriageway behind. Brick and clay tile-hung gables sit above green roofs and planted courtyards, giving the homes a quiet, established presence from the street.

A derelict Arts and Crafts house, brought back to life for modern family living.

A hybrid roof extension houses a bright, open-plan kitchen and family space with a partially vaulted ceiling. Two giant rooflights flood the room with daylight, while bifold doors open straight onto the new patio and garden. Externally, refreshed render and carefully matched brick, fenestration and roofing tie old and new together, alongside a new garage building carefully sited within tight planning constraints.

The result: a grand period house, restored with care, and reconnected to its beautiful garden.

Our contemporary extension to a Victorian gatehouse is nearly complete, with only the oak window surrounds left to install.

Designed to be modern yet sympathetic, it sits beautifully within its idyllic garden near Newbury. Carefully selected materials, including knapped flint, Scottish Russwood, slate and aluminium, were all approved by the planners and bring the design together.

Expansive glazing is framed by gold-coloured zinc, while recycled Pretty Plastic tiles create a distinctive, dragon-back-inspired finish that makes this home truly one of a kind.
