Every week brings a fresh challenge and a new county to navigate. Today we were on site in Drogheda, last week took us out to Enniskillen and recently we had the privilege of capturing data right beside the historic Derry Walls.
Working in such distinctive settings requires speed, minimal disruption and precision. Using our Leica BLK360 G2 laser scanner, we captured high-density 3D point cloud data to create a digital record of the site.
As-built surveys give architects, engineers and design teams the dependable spatial data they need to inform design decisions, protect surrounding structures and avoid costly site surprises down the line.

Three Irish counties now require a six-figure salary to buy a typical first-time buyer home.
New analysis shows:
• Dublin: €108,000
• Wicklow: €101,250
• Kildare: €100,238
Last year only Dublin sat above the €100k threshold.
Even more striking: a single buyer on the national median salary of €44,816 cannot borrow enough for a typical first home in any county, including Longford, the most affordable at €48,375.

Many first-time buyers are closing the gap by saving a larger deposit, buying with a partner, or using State supports like the First Home Scheme.

For many, a Bank Holiday weekend means walks across hills, coastal paths and countryside trails.
While out exploring, you might cross paths with a concrete triangulation pillar or an ancient boundary marker. It is a tangible reminder that every road, parcel of land and property boundary we navigate today relies on centuries of precision measurement.

From early Ordnance Survey teams traversing rough terrain on foot with basic chains and theodolites to modern surveyors deploying mobile LiDAR, RTK GPS and drone photogrammetry, the fundamental goal remains the same: absolute positional accuracy.

The seeds of the modern justice system were sown by Henry II (1154–1189). After the chaos of the civil war known as The Anarchy, England was littered with bitter land disputes. Instead of settling them the old-fashioned way — trial by combat (where the stronger fighter often won), Henry introduced something revolutionary.
He created the Assize of Novel Disseisin (c. 1166). If you’d been recently kicked off your land “unjustly and without judgment,” you could buy a royal writ. The sheriff would then summon 12 local freemen who knew the area. Under oath, they had to answer one simple question based on their own knowledge: Had the plaintiff been wrongfully dispossessed?
Later came the Grand Assize, which let a defendant choose a jury of 12 knights (selected by four other knights) instead of fighting a duel. These early jurors weren’t impartial strangers listening to evidence, they were local men expected to already know the truth of the matter.
Fast, practical and far less bloody than swinging swords, this system of sworn local men deciding disputes over possession and rights to land became one of the foundations of the English common law jury… and eventually the jury systems used across much of the world today.

Neighbourhood disagreements can escalate in unexpected ways, but few make it all the way to the Circuit Court with 18 months of CCTV footage over a pet’s toilet habits.
A legal battle between neighbours reached Dublin’s Circuit Civil Court after a solicitor and his wife sought damages and injunctions against their neighbour across the road, alleging nuisance and trespass caused by her cat, Coco, using their flowerbeds.
• The Initial Ruling: The District Court had originally awarded €6,000 in damages against the cat owner.
• The Appeal: The cat owner appealed to the Circuit Court, where hours of video clips were prepared showing the feline digging in garden soil, alongside counter-allegations regarding persistent doorbell ringing.
• The Judicial View: Circuit Court Judge James McCourt observed that "a court of law is the last place a dispute between neighbours should end up", noting that pets naturally roam and that cats cannot realistically be placed on leads for daily constitutionals.
• The Outcome: Following a lunchtime adjournment, both parties agreed to vacate the lower court's orders and strike out the appeal with no order as to costs.
The bigger picture for property owners whether the issue involves pets, overgrown hedges, rights of way or contested boundary lines, neighbour disputes carry enormous emotional and financial costs.
As the courts regularly point out, private dialogue, mediation, and clear spatial or legal boundaries are always preferable to lengthy, public and expensive litigation.
