Not advisable to try and treat a nest like this yourself without the correct protective clothing and equipment.

Due to lack of frosts this spring we are expecting to see lots of underground nests this year.
Be careful when mowing lawns if you see wasp activity.
If you are unfortunate and disturb a nest run as fast and far away as possible.
Once the wasps believe they have chased the danger away they will return to the nest to protect their queen.

Just a reminder it’s bee swarming time.
Bees swarm because they’re looking for a new home.
When a hive gets too crowded, the colony splits. The old queen leaves with a large group of worker bees to find a new place to live. They gather temporarily in a cluster (that’s the “swarm” you see) while scout bees search for a suitable new nesting spot.
We have a number of beekeepers we know who would love to re-home them for you.
If you are lucky enough to see a resting bee swarm, please phone us and we will try to arrange for a local beekeeper to take them away free of charge.
