Hi all, I don't post often, but this is an important one. The tools have to stay put for the foreseeable. Last week I woke up to severe pain in my neck and down my left arm, no apparent cause btw. To cut a long story short I'm on strong meds for a C7 cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve as I understand it) recovery could be as soon as the next couple of weeks up to 4 months.
Either way I've been ordered to rest and no work from the specialist.
Seeing as my hands are what I rely on for my trade, I'm taking no chances.

I'd like to thank those customers who have agreed to wait for my return to good health, and to my family and friends for their support.

I wish every tradesmen the best and join the choir of those that say to look after your body.

.rural.museum just installed 2 new information boards with signs, and I'm really stoked with the result. The black stain and chunky timber match the buildings perfectly, and the white information boards add a nice contrast. Working at Brook is always a joy, thanks to the friendly staff and volunteers.

New tool day!

As you might know I'm just starting out and some jobs require tools I just don't have right now.
So it's either borrow what I can, don't take the job or buy a new tool (as money allows)
Fortunately my friend Josh has loaned me his circular saw a couple of times. And with my impact and combi, this has served well...Thank you mate 👊

Fortunately got another job coming up that will need a multi tool and I have the funds to buy a new tool 🎉. Roll in with a great price on the previous version of multitool. A solid pick I think, I'm on the platform already so it made sense.

Not in pic is a new work beanie and rachet straps and set of blades.

Another happy repeat customer. I really liked the black stain...except when it was all over my hands...I took the drying time listed as gospel...it wasn't.
It's all lessons though, right?

Loft boarding install. Customer already had the first six boards put down in the centre, but required more space. After a visit to assess the job they decided on more of the same 150x25mm boards, as opposed to chipboard.
It was a hard 4 days with less than 4ft of crawl space and a massive 15m front to back. Almost 40 boards secured.
I learned a lot, and the customer feedback was invaluable.
Ultimately the customer was happy with the result.

A nice job at Brook Rural Musuem this week. They had a display table collapse and needed new trestles made.
I chose treated CLS as the beautiful oast house is liable to moisture and potential for damp.
I had materials delivered to the site and a brief trip on the train and a lift from a staff member I was there. Not having a vehicle won't stop me from getting the job done.
A few lessons to be had, but the customer is happy with the result and the table top is now screwed into a sturdy base.
And the best news, I've secured 2 more days work there!

I reached out to volunteer with and they kindly put me to work.

Here are some before-and-after shots of a bit of tidying up around Charlotte Court, plus the start of preparations for a wheelie-bin store for the new occupants of the Wine Warehouse.

It’s not carpentry, but a bit of edge-weeding and temporary paving keeps me active — and more importantly, it’s a start as I mean to go on: giving back to my local community.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Heritage Lab achieves and offering my time and skills wherever I can.

Today a personal DIY project from earlier this year.
I found a great cupboard and sideboard set on Ikea's website. I figured I'd give it a go making my own version and my brother was in charge of sourcing the sideboard as he had the same in his room that would do the job.
Anyway made a cutting list, used WG Burbridges cutting service and some white blocks to hold it all together, some simple sprung cupboard hinges and door handles.
Quite happy with how it turned out, plenty to improve of course, but I'm happy with the result.
