Visuals update!

Roke Lea, set in the Hampshire landscape, takes inspiration from the defining characteristics of local farmsteads and barns, reinterpreting them through a contemporary architectural language.

The proposal draws particularly from the traditional cross-barn and the loose arrangement of agricultural buildings around informal courtyards. Rather than a single domestic form, the house is conceived as a collection of connected volumes.

Enjoy the new visuals!

Sense of place.

Set within the grounds of a historic estate, this replacement dwelling is designed to feel quietly at home in its surroundings.

Rather than competing with the existing landscape, the design takes its cues from it, considering scale, proportion, materials and views.

As the design develops, we’re exploring how architecture can respond sensitively to its context while providing a considered home for modern life.

More to come as we take this project from drawing board to reality.

Blackberry Kilns close-ups...

Set high in the Kent Downs, this sustainable lifetime home takes its inspiration from the historic lime kilns of the local landscape.

Timber, knapped flint, red clay tiles and charred timber form a natural material palette, chosen to root the home in its rural setting while giving the architecture a distinctly contemporary character.

And then there’s the view.

Framed through the home, panoramic views across the Kent countryside become part of the architecture.

to Green Fox Farm.

Sandwiched between an SSSI and a golf course, Green Fox Farm is an ambitious proposal for an HO11 dwelling, with a strong focus on enhancing both the landscape and the experience of living within it.

The home is organised around a series of wings, each creating its own secluded outdoor space. With different orientations and relationships to the surrounding landscape, each courtyard has a distinct character and treatment.

Across the wider site, a permaculture strategy informed by Yeoman’s Scale of Permanence provides the underlying framework for how water is captured, stored and moved through the landscape.

On the drawing board!

This replacement dwelling has been carefully designed to sit within its surroundings, responding to the character of the estate while creating a contemporary home for modern living.

The approach is intentionally modest, sensitive and considered, allowing the landscape and setting to remain central to the design.

Now that the external louvre blinds are in and clad, the outside of the annex is finished 🥳
It’s very satisfying seeing it on my commute home from work

I’m enjoying how the vertical charred & brushed cladding around the square window lines up with the autumnal brown leaves of the Betula Ermanii (an early leafing silver birch) in the background. An unexpected and joyful additional contextual alignment i’m very much enjoying.

Now onto the fit out. system to fit first I reckon.
If anyone out there is at a loose end & fancies giving me a hand do let me know !
