A very busy week! Hundreds of miles travelled around the south west attending to a wide variety of organs great and small.
Taddiport on the other side of the river from Great Torrington was built as the leper’s church. The little organ looks the part and is reliable but quite a woozy sound. Installed from another location 50+ years ago by one Michael Lock a descendant of the long gone Cornish firm of Chenery & Lock.
Up into Dorset and Wiltshire for tuning and maintenance work. Lovely to visit the peaceful village of Iwerne Minster with its splendid 1913 JW Walker: a quality instrument.
On to Great Durnford in the Woodford Valley near Salisbury. A beautiful historic church in a peaceful location. The organ was one of our rescue operations ; someone had taken it down and abandoned it. A sad story but it ended well. A tuneful little number without being flamboyant.
Then on to one of our favourite destinations St John’s Devizes. The instrument is settling very nicely since installation. A fine recital on Saturday by John Challenger to a good size audience.
