Condensation on the windows is a sign the air has nowhere to go 💧

A home in Bransgore was dealing with damp, stale air and the condensation that comes with it. Everyday living puts a lot of moisture into a house, and in a well sealed property it has nowhere to escape to, so it settles on the coldest surfaces.

We installed a Nuaire Drimaster-Eco Heat positive input ventilation unit in the loft, with ducting run across to a diffuser on the landing and an isolation switch at high level beside it. It runs quietly in the background, feeding fresh filtered air through the whole house and pushing the damp, stale air out. A minor works certificate was issued on completion.

Guests turn up in electric cars now, and they expect somewhere to plug in ⚡

A holiday letting business near Fordingbridge asked us to add charging for visitors. The outbuilding was still running off a tired old sub board, so that came out first and a new 7 way consumer unit with surge protection went in, giving the building its own properly protected supply.

From there we ran the new circuit through the outbuilding and out to the corner of the gable, cut back the ivy to make room, then installed and commissioned a 7kW charge point. The outbuilding was tested and certified before we left.

Switchroom work in a live city-centre building ⚡

Voltage optimisation going in at a commercial site in Southampton city centre — a new floor-standing unit set on its plinth, control and isolation enclosures either side, and the tie-in to the existing LV panel and metering above.

Work like this can't happen with the doors open, so it was planned around a full shutdown and run through the night, with everything closed up and back in service before the site reopened.

Machine power in a food factory has to be safe, solid and washdown-proof ⚡

At a production unit in Poole we renewed the power drops feeding the machinery — new supplies clipped neatly down the hygienic wall panels, each one terminating in an interlocked switched socket outlet with its own isolator at the machine position.

Interlocked means the plug cannot go in or come out while the socket is live — the isolator has to be turned off first. Every outlet is RCD protected and labelled back to its board and way, so anyone on site can see at a glance what feeds what. The supplies are 32A 3P+N+E, run in hard-wearing flex that copes with a washdown environment.

It is the sort of installation that keeps a production line running and keeps an engineer safe when a machine has to come off supply.

A whole-house positive input ventilation system went into a home in Ferndown — a Nuaire Drimaster-Eco HC mounted in the loft, ducted through to a single tidy diffuser in the landing ceiling, with the isolator sited outside the loft space so it can be reached without climbing, and a Dri-Eco-4S controller for adjusting it from below.

The principle is simple. Rather than sealing damp air in, the unit supplies a gentle, continuous flow of filtered fresh air into the house and displaces the stale, moisture-laden air out through the building's natural leakage points. When a whole school site needs covering, one camera won't do it 📹

A school in Bournemouth had its CCTV replaced with a full IP system across the buildings and grounds. ColorVu bullet cameras — 4MP and 8MP depending on the position — went up on brickwork, cedar cladding and under the eaves, with a 32× PTZ on a pole for the wider open areas and smart tracking set to run on a schedule.

Behind them, around 1,700 metres of Cat5e was run back through ceiling voids where there was a route and tidy surface containment where there wasn't, into PoE+ switches and a 32-channel Hikvision NVR installed in the same room as the old recorder. Viewing was set up for staff in the main office, with the final network connection handed over to the site's own IT support.

Half the job is doing it when nobody's there to notice ⚡

A gym on a retail park in Eastbourne had three-phase voltage optimisation fitted to its incoming supply. Equipment like this brings the voltage the building actually receives down closer to what the kit inside is designed for — lower running costs, less waste heat, and longer life out of lighting and motors.

It went in as two stages. A pre-installation visit got the groundwork done — changeover switch, isolator and cabling all prepared — so the live changeover could be booked into a single out-of-hours shutdown window rather than taking the building off supply mid-session. Inside the unit: three toroidal transformers, the L1/L2/L3 tap links set up, and a Siemens MCCB with a rotary handle on the door so the whole installation can be isolated or bypassed in seconds. Metering sits alongside the distribution board so the site can see exactly what it's drawing.

Moving unit? Take the lighting with you ⚡

Two large multi-module LED floodlights came down from high level inside an industrial unit in Ferndown — fittings and cabling removed carefully and kept, rather than skipped and bought again. Heavy things to handle at the top of a ladder, so it was a two-person lift with someone footing throughout.

Both went back up in the company's new unit on the Woolsbridge estate at Three Legged Cross: mounting positions set to throw light across the stock racking, fresh cable run in surface conduit down to a weatherproof enclosure beside the fitting, and the pair recommissioned so the warehouse floor is lit properly end to end.
