Workplace EV charging, done properly ⚡

A charge point for a business unit on a trade park near Wimborne — a myenergi Zappi mounted on the profiled cladding right where the team parks, cable clipped and glanded, nothing left hanging.

Behind it is the part that matters: a dedicated 6mm five-core EV supply run back to the intake, landed on its own small distribution board with its own protective devices and surge protection, then glanded into the existing three-phase panel. Installed under the government Workplace Charging Scheme, tested, commissioned and certified.

Workplace charging sits alongside the rest of our commercial work — distribution boards and sub-mains, EICRs, lighting and emergency lighting, fit-outs and ongoing maintenance contracts for offices, retail and industrial units, landlords and managing agents, estates and communal areas across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Three-phase power for a commercial kitchen ⚡

A six-ring commercial range needs a lot more behind it than a 13A socket. At a community centre in Poole we installed a dedicated three-phase supply for a new cooker in the open-plan kitchen: a 32A triple-pole MCB at the board, 10mm² five-core LSOH SWA armoured cable run through from the main distribution board, and a 32A 3P+N+E IP44 interlocked switched socket with a Scame Optima red plug — so the range can be safely isolated and pulled out for cleaning.

New circuit installed, tested and certified on completion, with the cooker circuits clearly labelled at the board.

Commercial kitchens are one corner of what we do. Three-phase power and distribution, EICRs, lighting and emergency lighting, fit-outs and ongoing maintenance contracts — for offices, retail and industrial units, landlords and managing agents, estates and communal areas across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

More power for a working mill ⚡

When a site's demand grows, the supply has to keep up. Our team ran 15 metres of 75mm five-core XLPE armoured cable from the main warehouse to the mains intake room, feeding a new Proteus 8-way 400A TP+N panelboard with a 400A Type B MCCB incomer.

160A and 80A three-pole MCCBs fitted with spare ways for future expansion, four-pole rotary isolation, and cable tray keeping every run protected and tidy. Fully tested and certified on completion.

From distribution upgrades to full commercial and industrial installations, EICRs and planned maintenance, we keep businesses across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire running.

Twenty new sockets across a working warehouse ⚡

A warehouse on an industrial estate near Wimborne needed proper power down the far wall. We ran roughly 35m of 4mm SWA across the building and landed it on four banks of five metal-clad twin sockets, linked in 20mm conduit and taken back to the distribution board on a dedicated 32A RCBO.

Same job: five fused spurs run out to the washrooms for new hand dryers — existing containment reused where it ran, neat surface trunking where it didn't — plus a grid switch relocated in the warehouse office to somewhere the team can actually reach.

Metal-clad, mechanically protected, RCBO-fed. The spec an industrial unit deserves.

Commercial and industrial is our core work: warehouses and industrial units, offices and retail, landlords and managing agents, estates and communal areas, EICRs, fit-outs and maintenance contracts across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Earthing and bonding, done to the letter ⚡

An unsatisfactory EICR on a commercial network site in Bournemouth handed over a list of coded observations — and we worked through every one. Metal cable tray, basket and equipment racking bonded back to the earth reference system. Cabling supported and contained properly through plant areas, stairwells and fire escape routes. Missing trunking lids and barriers reinstated, unsupported conduit strapped and saddled, damaged accessories and a loose panel put right.

On the distribution side, an AC-type RCD swapped for a Type A to suit circuits carrying DC components, a three-phase 40A MCB replaced, and warning and alternative-supply labelling installed throughout. C2s and C3s cleared, site handed back compliant with BS 7671.

This is everyday work for our commercial and industrial teams across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire — EICRs and remedial packages, distribution and containment, offices, retail and industrial units, estates and communal areas, fit-outs and ongoing maintenance contracts for landlords and managing agents.

Emergency lighting, tested and put right ⚡

Planned remedial works across a working food production site: new twin-spot emergency luminaires through the production halls and chilled store, a failed bulkhead traced and replaced, and two extra twin spots added to cover newly reconfigured areas.

We extended the existing emergency circuit, fitted dedicated test points where luminaires had none, labelled everything up, and installed new escape signage in the loading bay directing staff to a relocated fire exit.

Emergency lighting is the system nobody notices until the day it matters. Keeping it working, compliant and properly documented is exactly the kind of ongoing work we do for commercial and industrial sites across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, alongside EICRs, fit-outs, estate and communal work and planned maintenance contracts.

Seven distribution boards, five sub-mains, one report 📋

When a manufacturing site grows, the electrics grow with it — a board here, a sub-main there, until nobody is quite sure what feeds what. We carried out a full EICR across a working industrial unit in Dorchester, covering five sub-mains and every board on site: electric cupboard, manufacturing floor, packing area, loading bay and workshop.

Every board tested, every circuit traced and recorded, warning labelling checked, and the whole installation documented — so the site team knows exactly what feeds what, and what needs attention before it becomes a problem.

Commercial and industrial EICRs, fit-outs, lighting and power schemes and ongoing maintenance contracts for landlords, managing agents, estates and business owners across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Three industrial units, one lighting scheme 💡

A complete lighting upgrade across three neighbouring industrial units on a Dorchester trading estate. LED high bays over the production floor, 5ft LED batten fittings through the workshops and stores, and LED panels in the office areas — several running on microwave sensors, so the light is only on when someone is actually there.

Then the part that only matters when everything else has failed. Twin emergency spots in the loading bay and eight "running man" emergency bulkheads over the fire exits and escape routes, with local test points installed in each unit so the routine checks can actually be carried out. All three units tested, certified and issued with their own Electrical Installation Certificate.

Tired fluorescent out, LED in — brighter and far more even light across the floor, a fraction of the running cost, and an escape route that stays lit when the power does not.

From the archive 📂 EICR on a three-flat block in Ferndown

Three flats, three separate metered supplies, one intake board. Before any testing starts the first job is knowing what feeds what — so each supply was identified and clearly marked A, B and C, with the measured external earth fault loop impedance written up alongside: 0.10Ω, 0.10Ω and 0.09Ω.

From there it is circuit by circuit. Every consumer unit labelled to its flat, and insulation resistance tested throughout on a Fluke 1662 reading over 2000MΩ — comfortably above the minimum, and exactly what you want to see on a rental block.

For landlords and managing agents an EICR is not paperwork. It is the evidence that the installation is safe and the legal duty has been met. Sorting the labelling out at the same time means the next engineer, and every future inspection, starts from a much better place.

EICRs, communal and external lighting, consumer units and distribution boards, fit-outs and ongoing maintenance contracts — for landlords, managing agents, estates, offices, retail and industrial units across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Get in touch with the Dorset Electrical Solutions team.

EV charging at a Hampshire golf club ⚡

Two commercial charge points removed, reinstalled and brought back into service at a golf club near Romsey. Every cable run, connection and fuse was checked on the way back in, then the pair were fully tested and recommissioned to BS7671.

Behind them sits a dedicated EV charging distribution board — 100A main switch, individual B32 RCBOs for each charge point and a surge protection device on the incomer. Clearly labelled Charger 1 and Charger 2, so whoever opens that board next knows exactly what they are looking at.

Destination charging is quickly becoming standard for clubs, hotels, offices and retail parks. It only earns its keep if it is installed and maintained properly.
