A new vacation home is taking shape within an old olive grove overlooking the Ionian Sea.

Set along an elongated, sloping site, the project is composed of two discreet volumes that follow the natural topography and the traces of existing drystone walls. The main house settles into the lower contours of the landscape, while the guesthouse is positioned further uphill. Stone bases anchor the buildings to the ground, while lightweight CLT structures, generous glazing and sheltered outdoor spaces open them towards the sea.

Architecture and landscape are conceived as one continuous experience, preserving the character of the olive grove and its agricultural memory.

Join us tomorrow at Material Matters Vol. 7 at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall featuring a presentation by Demetra Katsota.

Responding to this year’s theme of "Facades: Metal, Wood, Glass & Cladding" our co-Founder will examine the architectural potential of a building envelope through two recent projects. K314 Office Building and Ellinikon Health Sciences Campus for UNIC Athens offer ground for a broader discussion on the expressive role of facades in Greek contemporary architecture.

The presentation "Depth, Rhythm, Boundary" will also reflect on the internationally-recognised Economist Building by Alison & Peter Smithson, whose rigor, clarity and urban presence still inform facade design development today.

buerger katsota architects is hiring a full-time Office Manager to join the team in Chalandri and collaborate with an international team.

The Office Manager will be responsible for all administrative, accounting and operational tasks of the bka studio. The primary focus of this position is to offer management support and operational efficiency for all day-to-day tasks that ensure a seamless experience for all bka staff members. We are looking for a full-time or part-time member of our team who will transform and positively influence the culture of bka.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of experience at medium to large scale businesses

- Fluency in written and spoken English, good knowledge of German is an asset

- Excellent command of Microsoft Office and accounting software

- Professional phone etiquette

- Guest management, coordination of meetings and meeting preparation

- Calendar management for all team members and maintaining contact database up to date

- Excellent physical and digital archiving skills including filing, copying, scanning, processing incoming and outgoing mail

- Supplies management including incoming and outgoing deliveries, software licence purchase, and general purchase orders

- Support team with expenses management, invoice generation, and all accounting tasks

- New staff onboarding, ensuring compliance to HR processes and introducing new policies, maintaining staff databases and leave records up to date

- Organise internal and external social events for the bka team

UNIC Athens opens its doors in Ellinikon, and bka witnessed more than a beginning; we saw the hard work of a diverse team giving form to a bold vision.

The first building of the UNIC Athens – Health Sciences Campus is a Medical School rooted in the Mediterranean landscape. Through the inventive retrofit of the former Olympic Airways data centre, the building stands as a dialogue between light, space, and purpose. The project was developed in collaboration with Michael Cosmas Architecture.

As architects of the project, we express our sincere gratitude to the University of Nicosia for their trust, vision, and continuous support throughout this process. We are thankful to all collaborators, consultants, and contributors across government, planning, design, education, and medical institutions whose work enabled the transformation of an existing structure into a new academic and medical institution under demanding conditions.

May this building foster curiosity, exchange, and quiet breakthroughs for generations to come, as the campus continues to evolve.

Last evening we had the pleasure of enjoying Akylas Akylas live at our latest project - the Residence of the Austrian Embassy in Athens.

Akylas is a Greek singer representing Greece in Vienna on the 12th - 16th of May during the Eurovision Song Contest. Hosted by the Austrian Embassy, the Eurovision Kick-off Party honoured the team of Akylas, who performed not only this year’s song for Greece “Ferto", but also old favorites such as 2014 winner “Rise Like a Phoenix”. The complete renovation of the Residence we designed in 2014 and completed in 2025. Yesterday it transformed to garden stage under the festivities of the popular contest celebrating art, music and dance.

As the Austria Ambassador H.E. Gerda Vogl wished Akylas, we hope next year the Eurovision will be hosted in Athens!

A site visit with the studio, standing together in a space we designed.

K314 Office Building is approaching completion, and we gathered on the open rooftop to see it taking shape. A medium-scale commercial building, it is defined by a large undulating glass façade that opens the interiors to the city, onto the endless movement of Kifisias Avenue and the green Filothei Hill beyond.

Returning to finished work reminds us how much a shared way of seeing is built slowly, project by project. More on K314 soon.

KTIRIO honored buerger katsota architects for our team’s contribution to architecture in Greece and evolving our industry in the past 20 years.

Demetra Katsota presented our most defining projects that progressed architectural design and advanced bka’s cross-sector research and practice. We enjoyed two days of admiring our colleagues’ work and celebrating the anniversary of Ktirio architectural publications.

Looking ahead to another 40 years of editorial vision, design and inspiration!
