300 companies. Almost all dead. That was the plan.
In 2017 China had ~300 EV makers and 100+ lithium cell makers. Today a handful survive.
Nobody in 2012 knew which company would learn to make a perfect cell. So China funded hundreds of attempts, gave them free land and cheap power, and let almost all of them die.
The survivors kept the recipe.
Europe’s Northvolt raised over $10 billion and still went bankrupt — because the recipe was never for sale.

Three things to check before you buy a lithium battery for your hybrid solar system:

1️⃣ Warranty in cycles, not years — 1 cycle = 1 full charge + 1 full discharge. Ask for the cycle count.
2️⃣ DOD (Depth of Discharge) — minimum 80%. At 50% DOD, half the battery you paid for is dead weight.
3️⃣ Cross-brand compatibility — it must run on other companies’ hybrid inverters too, not just the same brand.

If your installer can’t answer all three, walk away.

30 GW on paper. 16-18 GW in reality.
A Reuters report quoting German firm EUPD Research says India’s actual operating solar cell capacity is 16-18 GW — not the ~30 GW figure you keep hearing.
Both numbers are “correct.” The official one counts nameplate capacity: every plant that’s been installed or announced. The real one counts what’s actually producing cells today.
That gap is exactly why module manufacturers are waiting 6-8 months for domestic cells, and why a third of India’s small panel makers have stopped production.
A factory on paper doesn’t make a single cell.

DCR panel mehnga kyun hai? Blame the bottleneck. 🔋
India ke paas modules banane ki capacity ~109 GW hai. Cells banane ki? Sirf 17.9 GW approved.
Jab supply itni kam ho, cell makers price decide karte hain — aur unka operating margin ~25% par baitha hai. ICRA ka apna data kehta hai domestic cell wale modules 3–4 cents/watt mehnge padte hain.

India ki pehli cell factory. Ab dekhiye andar kya kya bahar se aata hai.
Cathode material — China. Anode material — China. Ye Ola ke apne prospectus mein likha hai, aur company ne kaha hai ki gigafactory chalu hone ke baad bhi ye sourcing jaari rahegi.
Coating machinery bhi India mein nahi banti.
To fir “Make in India” mein Indian kya hai? Ola ka jawab — process. Dry electrode coating. Solvent nahi, drying oven nahi. 30% kam energy, aadha factory, 40% tak kam machinery kharcha. Is industry ka sabse bada prize.
Ab timeline:
Tesla — 2019 mein $235 million ki acquisition. Full dry process confirm — January 2026. Saat saal.
LG — target 2028.
Ola — dawa hai ki early 2024 mein ho gaya. 🤔
Main ye nahi keh raha ki Ola jhooth bol raha hai. Main ye poochh raha hoon — ye sawaal ab tak kisi ne poocha kyun nahi?
