Last week Austin was the home of motorsport, with the F1 United States Grand Prix in town. We took pole a bit early, on Thursday, at Robots & Race Week in East Austin, hosted by and 🏁

Most people who stopped by our booth wanted to talk about the same thing: reshoring car manufacturing in the US, without months lost on tooling or parts shipped in from overseas.

To show what we do, we brought a few of our best pieces: a car hood, a car bumper and an autoclave tool we built for Duqueine Motorsport.

Additive manufacturing lets you produce finished parts directly. Where the part has to come from a mold, printing the mold still brings shorter lead times, less waste and lower costs, as with the Duqueine tool.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) picked Caracol's Vipra XP AM for the UK's National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM) 🇬🇧

MTC's DED team works with aerospace, defense and energy companies to research, develop and qualify metal AM applications. Their job is taking new processes out of the lab and into real industrial production, which is no small thing.

To grow NCAM's capability on large metal parts, they needed two things. Full control of the process, from toolpath all the way to in-process monitoring. And a partner willing to work side by side with them, not from a distance.

After a thorough technical evaluation, Vipra XP AM was their choice 🤝

Our teams are already at work together on new high-complexity components. We're proud of this partnership, and honestly we're curious to see where it takes us 🚀

The only drawing JOME Engineering LLC had was the propeller itself.

No CAD, and no time for a foundry either. So the team went the other way around: they scanned the old part, rebuilt its geometry from the scan and turned that into the digital master. Reverse engineering, then straight to print in Dubai on Vipra AM, our robotic WAAM platform.

🔹 SS316L, 20 hours of print time
🔹 The boss came first: machined, dye-penetrant checked, then the three blades printed on top of it
🔹 Re-scanned at every machining stage

What came out is the UAE's first 3D printed marine propeller. 685 mm across, 26 kg, delivered with a lead time about 60% shorter and a cost around 40% lower than casting. And next time it's needed, JOME already has the file.

Quick update on our shipping zones: Caracol now produce to low Earth orbit, the Moon, and any planet with a stable power supply. Mars lead times still TBD 🚀

Okay, not quite yet. But our US team came back from their pretty convinced.

They drove down to Houston to visit , stood under a Saturn V, walked into Mission Control, and asked more questions than the tour guide probably signed up for 👨‍🚀 Hard not to, when you spend your days working with the most advanced and everything around you was built to work flawlessly 250 miles above Earth.

We work together every day between Italy and Texas, which mostly means a screen and someone eating lunch while someone else is having breakfast. This time we got to share the same room, and spent a good part of it arguing about who would make the better astronaut. Still no consensus.

Feet back on the ground in Austin (for now) 🌎

A machine builder in Kumamoto needs a metal part. The supplier is in Chicago. 🇺🇸➡️🇯🇵
The standard route means about 12,000 km by air freight, a customs check and up to 8 days before the part arrives.

Now picture the same order in a distributed manufacturing network:
→ engineers at Caracol in Italy redesign the part for additive
→ the CAD file goes to a partner microfactory in Sendai
→ the partner prints the part on a system with locally sourced raw material
→ a truck covers the last 1,400 km to Kumamoto

Only the file crosses the ocean. 💾

Our estimates for this scenario:
📍 about 88% less distance traveled
⏱️ 2-3 days from production to delivery, vs. up to 8
📦 no customs: no import paperwork, no duties, no waiting at the border
Waste stays low too ♻️ Vipra AM deposits metal only where the geometry requires, builds organic shapes without tooling and gets close to net shape.

Greenland Arctic Development Corp (GADC) has chosen Caracol's Heron AM to bring on-demand manufacturing to Greenland 🇬🇱

GADC invests in Greenlandic entrepreneurs across aviation, maritime services, housing, energy and tourism. Every one of these businesses depends on parts and equipment, and on an island where replacements often come from suppliers in Europe or North America, GADC wanted a shorter supply chain, with parts produced close to where they're used. 📍

They were looking for a system local teams would run themselves, with designs shared as digital files and one flexible cell covering many different components ⚙️

After commissioning in Chicago, Heron AM will move to the island and become the base of a new production joint venture led by a local entrepreneur.

We appreciate the trust of the GADC team, and we look forward to seeing the first parts made in Greenland! 🙌

The greenest manufacturing step is the one you skip ♻️

Robotic advanced manufacturing goes straight from the CAD file to the part. Tooling gets simpler if you need it, material scraps are drastically reduced printing near-net-shape, and parts don't need to be shipped across the world to reach their final point of use 🌍

⚙️ In Dubai, JOME Engineering rebuilt a 26 kg stainless steel propeller from a scan, spending roughly 40% less than casting would have cost.

Every year, our offsite group photo gets a little harder to take 📸

This year we headed to Porlezza, on Lake Lugano, and once again the photographer had to take a few steps back to fit everyone in.

They call it a problem. We call it the most honest KPI we've got. Every new face in that shot is someone who chose to bet on where robotic manufacturing is heading, and chose to do it with us. Hard not to take that as a compliment.

Two days of great food, long hours at the spa, and more sports than we can count, all played way more competitively than anyone will admit. Then came the team challenge, with some very unconventional tasks that revealed a few hidden talents we never saw coming. The photos stay with us, though. What happens at the offsite stays at the offsite 🤫

We also raised a glass to another year of milestones, big and small. We earned that one 🥂
Back at it now, with the year's final stretch ahead and plenty still to ship!
