1 layer vs 2 layers…can you spot the difference? 👀

When painting your pottery, the number of layers you use can make a BIG difference to the final look! 🌟🫧

One layer gives a lighter, more subtle finish, while a second layer makes the colour deeper, brighter and more even ✨ Some colours may look quite different with that extra coat, especially the lighter shades!

So whether you’re after something soft and subtle or bright and bold, adding another layer can really bring your design to life!! 🖌️🩷🌟

But what actually is glazing? 🌟🖌️

You might have heard us talk about glazing at the studio, but what does it actually mean?…

Glazing is the process of adding a coating to your pottery, before it goes into the kiln for its final firing!

The glaze is what gives your piece its shine and texture…and it can completely transform how it looks! 🎨

The fun part? Glaze doesn’t always look the same before it’s fired. Some colours can look dull or completely different when they’re applied, and it’s the heat of the kiln that brings the final finish to life 🤗✨

So that beautiful glossy, colourful finish you see on a finished piece? That’s the glaze doing its thing!

Just a little note from me, due to Summer Holiday, we are reducing opening hours temporarily – as seen below!

Opening Hours:
• Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 11am–4pm
• Saturday 1st August: 12pm–5pm
• Saturday 8th August: 10:30am–5pm

This means that your pottery will take 10–14 days to be glazed and fired. We have Dahly running the shop solo during this time, but we will be back to usual opening hours from Monday 10th August!
