We love a good before and after. But sometimes the coolest part of an old Florida house is what was already there.
𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀.
Terrazzo is a perfect example. It has a real connection to Sarasota's Mid Century Modern history and was used in homes designed during the Sarasota School of Architecture era. It made sense here. It's durable, stays cool underfoot and, 50 or 60 years later, a lot of it is still going strong.
Even better, terrazzo that looks rough can sometimes be repaired, ground and polished back to something pretty incredible.
Then there's Saltillo. Handmade, warm, a little imperfect and full of variation. It's not supposed to look brand new and that's exactly why we like it.
Parquet? We know. The little wood squares. But hear us out. Real wood parquet that's been refinished in the right house can be SO good.
And old growth pine is one we always take a closer look at. Older wood can have beautiful grain, color and character that gets even better when it's cleaned up and refinished.
That's the fun of working on older homes.
Sometimes you rip it out.
Sometimes you uncover something you absolutely weren't expecting.
And sometimes the old floor ends up being one of the best things in the house.
