iscovered first hand the healing qualities of the exuberant & exotic gardens that flourished. Whilst embracing grief she found her muse of calm & peace, a stillness of natural beauty. Filled with gentle swaying bold plants, luscious leaves & unusual flowers she found her ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Filled with unusual shapes, colours & textures, a wild jungle that delighted the senses. Her unique colour palette with soft earthy tones, harmonises & styles effortlessly with natural interior spaces. Using predominantly mineral pigments, reminiscent of the limestone frescos that captivated her during the eight years she spent in Italy. Do you like the feel of texture ? Touch is a process in my work to connect with nature, through earth pigments. A way to ground my thoughts and my attention into the present moment through sensations.

Our hands engage our minds in a different way. Touch is a powerful antidote and regulator of our nervous systems. In the same way you might stroke a cat or a dog. It slows the heart rate down. It slows the mind down, and produces oxytocin. The love and trust attachment chemicals. An expression of love for nature.

What are glimmers? There’s a certain kind of evening light that you sense when you actually stop and slow down. The way it moves through a garden, softly illuminating petals, and leaves, shifting the colours to twilight tones of everything it touches.

Nature asks nothing of you. Just that you pause long enough to feel it, absorb it.

Bloomlight, an earth pigment painting, was created from moments spent wandering through gardens, it holds that calm luminosity, that gently takes you somewhere else. A Sanctuary of light and colour.

Do you love colour? Hues within a similar palette are one of my fav ways to explore. After many years working with colour as a textile artist amazingly I learned a secret or two.

If you work with only brights it can feel really loud, but also really flat, with not much depth. If you work with only dark and moody colours there is no light and therefore, no contrast. If you work with a palette that is very predictable it can feel kinda dull, or loads of pastels, it can end up saccharine.

Opposite attract for a reason.

Dark paintings look great when there is a touch of lightness. Bright paintings look best when there is a touch of darkness. And adding in a touch of an unexpected colour, like a muddy tone, or a super bright tone creates something a bit unexpected. A little bit of a surprise.

Colour is symbolic of life. Learning how to embrace all the shades of it brings depth and meaning as well as joy and delight.

How often do we give ourselves permission to just sit with what is?

'Reveal' was created in one of those moments. When you stop trying to fix, explain, or push through, and instead, just observe. Without judgment. Without any urgency.

That's when those precious insights often come. A layer removed. A curtain parting. An "oh my god" moment when something clicks and you suddenly see it for what it is.

Painted with earth pigments, this piece embodies that realisation. Which happens through kindness and compassion. It's a reminder that the richness of life's complexity reveals itself when we're willing to sit still long enough to truly accept it.

Professional photography of my original paintings makes all the difference when it comes to the limited edition prints. The legendary art photographer Sait Akkerman, .co.nz knows just how to light the artwork - half day light, half gallery light, to bring out all the tiny details.

The quality in print reproduction is evident in the colour matching, and also the fine details of the raw canvas original.

Each heirloom quality print, comes with a hand signed and numbered limited edition print.

When did stillness become my/our modern day challenge?

After a long career in design and many, many hours in-front of a screen, I craved its opposite. A different pace, to work with my hands again and to get back in touch with what really mattered. I had forgotten what stillness felt like.

Taking time to slow down and sit still in nature, not only shifts my perspective but provides a guide to another way of living. It’s an invitation to use our senses in a world that doesn’t make much sense.

Early morning dew, lush green foliage, blooming flowers, flickers of colour and light beckon you to surrender into a softer and calmer space. To go with the flow and find freedom in this very moment.

The original painting is now sold, which was created with hand-made earth natural pigments on raw canvas. The limited edition, museum quality print is available in a selection of sizes, framed or unframed and includes complimentary shipping.

Last summer we had a big storm. Many roads were closed due to flooding and slips and walking the beach and coastal farms was quite different because of it.

Wild weather events are becoming more frequent and extreme. Change is happening whether we like it or not. And I certainly don’t have the answers.

I discovered washed up on the beach soft ochre spheres, in an array of sun faded hues. As well as crumbling bits of red, yellow and pink ochre from the slips. I began to harvest small amounts of what was right in front of me. It felt like a message, to do something with it.

Appreciating and respecting the power and beauty of mother nature is at the core of what I do and I am often in awe and wonder by it. It felt like nature gifted me a palette, to go and do something with it.
