🛏️ FOUND THIS LITTLE BUG ON YOUR BED? HERE'S WHAT TO LOOK FOR.
This is what an adult bed bug looks like. Small, reddish-brown, flat and oval-shaped — roughly the size of an apple seed.
Finding one doesn't automatically mean your whole house is infested, but it's worth checking carefully.
🔎 Signs to watch out for:
✅ Live bed bugs hiding along mattress seams, bed frames or headboards.
✅ Tiny black or dark spots on bedding or mattresses.
✅ Shed skins or small pale eggs tucked into cracks and crevices.
✅ Unexplained bites after sleeping — although bites alone don't confirm bed bugs.
WHAT CAN YOU DO YOURSELF?
1️⃣ Vacuum thoroughly. Focus on mattress seams, bed frames, skirting boards, carpet edges and nearby furniture. Empty the vacuum into a sealed bag and dispose of it outside.
2️⃣ Wash and heat-dry bedding. Follow fabric care instructions. A hot dryer cycle, where suitable, is especially important for killing bed bugs and their eggs.
3️⃣ Move your bed away from the wall. Make sure bedding doesn't touch the floor and the bed isn't touching bedside tables or other furniture.
4️⃣ Use bed bug interceptor traps. Place them beneath each bed leg. These can help detect bed bugs travelling to or from the bed, including from surrounding hiding places.
5️⃣ Keep monitoring. Check the traps and sleeping area regularly. Finding no bugs in the traps doesn't necessarily mean they're gone.
⚠️ Important: These steps can help reduce activity and identify the problem, but they may not eliminate an established infestation. Bed bugs can hide in tiny cracks, furniture and other areas away from the mattress.
Avoid randomly spraying insecticides on bedding or moving potentially infested furniture into other rooms.
The sooner you identify the problem, the easier it is to make a proper treatment plan.
