**NEW GRANNY FLAT RULES AND CHECKLIST IN NZ**

You may now be able to build a **new standalone granny flat up to 70m²** **without a building consent**, if the project meets the exemption rules.

Before you start, make sure:
✔ up to **70m²**
✔ **single-storey**
✔ **standalone**
✔ **self-contained**
✔ **PIM from council**
✔ **licensed professionals**
✔ meets **Building Code**
✔ final documents sent to council after completion

Less red tape — but it still needs to be done properly.
