We’re talking confined-space awareness, working within your training and authorisations, and having the confidence to stop rather than improvise when a job isn’t going to plan.

When a project is finished, most people only notice what's been built.

They don't see the temporary roads structures that go in before hand. Yet without those things, the finished project wouldn't exist.

Operators aren't only moving dirt.

They read the ground before the machine even starts.
They notice changing conditions.
They think about the crews coming after them.
They understand that today's decisions affect tomorrow's programme.

That's experience you can't teach overnight.

It's one of the reasons we value operators who look beyond the task in front of them and understand the bigger picture.

When someone asks for "a skilled worker", what do they actually mean?

Sometimes it's someone who can jump straight into a crew and get the job done.

Other times it's someone who can read the programme, communicate with other trades, solve problems and keep work moving without constant direction.

On paper those requests can look almost identical.

On site, they're very different people.

That's why we spend time getting to know our people, not just what's written on their CV.

Matching the right person to the right project makes all the difference.
