A good one this week. A fella getting his boat sorted over winter, ready for the season - wanted the gas checked while she was tied up. Found a tired regulator, swapped it, certified, done. Smart way to do it: sort the gas in the quiet months, no scramble when the season starts. Exactly the kind of job I'm here for.

Ever wondered what actually happens in a gas safety check? It's about 20 minutes. I check the flame's burning clean, test the lines hold pressure, make sure everything's venting right, then you get a certificate. No mess, no big disruption. Whoever fitted or certified your gas, a check tells you it's still safe.

Three signs your gas appliance is due a service: 1) the flame's yellow or sooty instead of blue, 2) it's slow to fire up or keeps cutting out, 3) there's black marks or soot around it. Any of those, get it looked at before winter really works it. Easy to sort now, a real pain when it packs up cold.

If you're aboard over winter, gas in a shut-up boat is the one to respect. When it's cold and closed up tight, carbon monoxide from an appliance overdue a service or a blocked vent can build up - and you can't see it or smell it. A quick check gives you peace of mind. I do this on boats all the time, so happy to give yours a once-over.

When did you last have your gas system checked?

A lot of people don't think about it until something goes wrong. A gas safety inspection takes about an hour and gives you a clear picture of where things are at.

We run a five-minute pressure drop test, check all connections and appliances, and issue a Certificate of Compliance. Proper documentation. Peace of mind.

Out in Whitford this week, sorting a heater that wouldn't fire up. Turned out to be a simple fix, and I checked and certified the gas while I was there. Fast, certified, no fuss - that's the idea. Bottled gas or mains, home, boat or van, give me a yell. 022 681 0751

Why boats and vans? Honestly, because I love it. Boats and vans are where I'm most at home, and their gas systems are a bit different to a house, so not everyone does them. I'm certified for both, and I get a real kick out of getting someone sorted before a trip away. Based in Beachlands, but I'll travel for a good boat or van job.
