Kia ora everyone! We hope this New Year has been treating you all with a gentleness and love ๐ค
Arohamai for our absence since the end of an incredibly successful Boosted x Moana Campaign.
Weโre finally back as a full collective after many months of reflection, personal healing and going through the rapid motions of life and the current state of the world but with many thoughts and visions weighing heavy on our hearts + minds, we feel the call to come back now and prepare for the work that has been laid out for us.
As a collective of artists that are sons & daughters of Te Moana Nui a Kiwa, amidst working incredibly hard over the last couple of months to give our communities the best of us, we struggled to push through most days as our hearts were heavy with so much mamae that seemed to be permeating every fibre and being of our world.
Weโve had a chance to sit for some time with this mamae and it would be remiss of us as a collective whose foundations are built on being storytellers and world builders of the Moana to not be clear on our political and social framework as a group and as individuals- storytelling IS political. Our very existence as a vessel for storytelling is political.
We acknowledge how privileged (& incredibly lucky) we are as a collective to be able to create, gather, and celebrate our communities, especially in this current climate where Indigenous liberation continues to be disrespected with colonial and systemic violence, time and time again.
If it isnโt already clear, let it be known now, Lalaga Niu will ALWAYS stand and work in solidarity with ALL Indigenous communities & peoples, as weโre all apart of the joint fight for freedom and self determination. FREE PALESTINE, FREE CONGO, FREE WEST PAPUA, FREE HAWAIโI, FREE SUDAN & LAND BACK TO ALL OUR INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES โผ๏ธ
In the coming months, we just ask that you please be patient with us e te whฤnau as everything we do this year we want to be an intentional and loving offering to our communities - but we promise it will be worth the wait ๐ค
