The finishing details are coming together at this Remuera new build with Lewis Build.

We’re now at the final stages of fit-off, with the electrical, air conditioning, security and data systems all coming together ahead of handover.

There’s plenty going on throughout this incredible home – trimless track lighting, feature pendants, integrated LED lighting, Vynco Urban switchgear and a carefully concealed heat pump system.

The ducted heat pump system uses Mitsubishi Electric IQ zone control, with custom Holyoake grilles integrated into the joinery. In areas where ducting wasn’t feasible, concealed bulkhead units were used instead to keep the same discreet finish. This is a premium alternative to high-wall heat pumps in areas where ducting isn’t practical.

A lot of the work on a project like this is about making the electrical and other services feel like part of the architecture rather than something added afterwards.

Here’s how we involve you in the electrical design process 👇

Thinking about getting us involved in an upcoming project but wondering what the design process looks like?

For custom projects, like renovations and new builds, we take a collaborative approach to ensure the design fits your vision. Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Plan: We start by adding the electrical details to your architectural plans (if available) with the light fittings, power points, switches and other electrical features we envisage. We then send you the marked up plans and a quote based on this.

2️⃣ Review: You give us your feedback on the plans. Ideally we’ll meet in person to chat about any changes, clarify our ideas and get a feel for how you plan to use each space.

3️⃣ Tweak: Based on your feedback, we update the plans and quote, and send them back to you for approval. We repeat this process as needed, until we’ve nailed it.

If you don’t have architectural plans, we’ll usually start with an on-site meeting and follow up with a detailed written plan for each space.

When you work with us, you’ll know exactly what to expect, what you’re paying for and how we’ll bring your vision to life – no surprises along the way.

⚠️ A quick RCD check each month can make a huge difference to your family’s safety.

Most people don’t realise it’s something you should do every month – but it’s a tiny job that could make a huge difference if something goes wrong.

RCDs cut the power quickly during a fault – whether that’s a wiring issue, a stray object in a power point or another electrical hazard.

Checking them regularly means they’ll work when you need them most.

Here’s how:

1️⃣ Open your switchboard door. You should see one or more devices labelled ‘RCD’ or ‘Residual Current Device’.

2️⃣ Each RCD should have a small button (sometimes marked ‘T’ or ‘Test’).

3️⃣ Press the button – a lever should flip down. That means it’s doing its job.

4️⃣ Reset it by pushing the lever back up.

Testing RCDs will cut off the power briefly to some of the items in your home, so don’t run the test if your washing machine or another appliance is mid-cycle.

Tip: set a monthly reminder to test your RCDs and smoke alarms at the same time – two quick jobs that keep your home safer.

💬 When did you last check your RCDs?

P.S. If you can’t find any test buttons, you likely don’t have RCDs. In that case, it might be time to upgrade to a modern switchboard with RCD protection – they’re designed to quickly cut power and reduce the risk of electric shock.

These vertical heated towel rails were set out with a laser, then checked again with a level to make sure the spacing and alignment were spot on.

Worried about your family’s safety while tradies are working at your place?

Here’s how we keep your home safe while we’re there 👇

Our most important safety measure is our isolation procedure, which we use when any wiring is going to be exposed. To keep everyone safe, we physically disconnect the relevant wiring from the energy source (i.e. the circuit breaker at your switchboard). We then use a multimeter to confirm everything is fully isolated.

If you have kids at home while we’re there, we also take the time to chat with you about any hazards to be aware of, like ladders and tools.

Sometimes we need to leave our equipment unattended while we go into the ceiling or head out to our vehicles to grab supplies, so it’s important that you know what hazards to watch out for and how you can keep your little ones safe.

Whether it’s a small job or a big project, your safety is always our biggest priority.
