Want a smarter home without a full automation system? Start with these two simple tweaks ↓

Making your home a bit smarter doesn’t have to mean rewiring the whole place or splashing out on automation. Sometimes, it’s the smallest upgrades that make the biggest difference.

1️⃣ USB Power Points

Swap a standard power point for one with built-in USB outlets – no more unplugging lamps just to charge your phone, e-reader or electric toothbrush.

Bedrooms and bathrooms are the obvious spots, but some people love them in offices and living spaces too. Most new ones have USB-A and USB-C outlets, or just USB-C for a cleaner look.

2️⃣ Sensor Lights

One of those “why didn’t I do this sooner?” upgrades. They turn on when you need them and off when you don’t – perfect in:

✔ Bathrooms
✔ Hallways & stairs
✔ Front or side entrances
They’re practical, low-maintenance and can even trim a bit off your power bill.

Progress at The Glen in Remuera with Lewis Build.

We’ve recently wrapped up pre-wire on this one and are now moving into the exterior fit-off of lighting and security.

This project includes:
• electrical
• heating/cooling
• security
• and data

Plenty happening behind the scenes at the moment as the build keeps progressing.

We’ll be into fit-off over the next 4–6 weeks 👌

Any electrical company can wire things up.

But where projects usually succeed or fall apart is everything outside the installation itself.

→ Proactive communication
→ Thoughtful planning
→ Attention to detail
→ Respect for people’s time
→ Ownership of the end result

Whether it’s a new build, renovation or a smaller job around the home, we believe getting a great result usually comes down to:
• asking the right questions early
• attention to the finer details
• being responsive and easy to deal with
• tidy workmanship
• and a determination to get the best result possible

Because great electrical work isn’t just about whether something turns on.

It’s about how the whole space looks, feels and functions day to day. And beyond that, it’s about making the process of working with us feel smooth and easy.

If you’re looking for electricians who think beyond the installation itself, we’d love to help.

⚠️ DIY electrical work – where to draw the line ⚠️

You know those moments when you think, “I could probably just do that myself…”?

We’ve all been there – Kiwis love a bit of DIY.

But when it comes to electrical work, there’s a clear line between what’s safe to do yourself and what really needs a qualified electrician.

✅ What you can do yourself:

Homeowners are allowed to carry out what the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 call “low-risk prescribed electrical work.”

In plain English, that means replacing what’s already there – like swapping out a light fitting.

🚫 What you should leave to a pro:

Anything more complex (like new wiring or switchboard work) needs to be done by a qualified electrician.

Even simple jobs can have hidden complications – and if something goes wrong, your insurance might not cover it without a Certificate of Compliance.

💬 Question for you: Have you ever started a DIY electrical job and thought, ‘Maybe I should call a pro?

A lot of older switchboards still “work fine”.

But the thing is, modern switchboards do a lot more when it comes to safety.

One of the biggest differences is RCD protection.

RCDs are designed to reduce the risk and severity of electric shock.

A lot of older homes simply weren’t built with that level of protection originally.

That’s why switchboard upgrades often come up during renovations, kitchen upgrades, spa installs or even something as simple as adding new power points.

Other times, people choose to upgrade because they want modern safety protection in place.

Not the most exciting upgrade in the world…
but definitely one of the more important ones if safety is a priority.

Some people might call us pedantic, but we like to call it professional.

We’re sticklers for ensuring your electrical wiring and installations are done once, done right 👌

Doing it right the first time means we’re making your home safer and minimising the chances of needing to get things fixed anytime soon.

Sometimes, our eye for detail means we catch safety issues from work you’ve had done previously.

We know it’s frustrating having to fix things unexpectedly, but your family’s safety always comes first.

At Tindalls, precision and attention to detail are at the core of everything we do.

If that’s something you know you need in an electrician, we’d love to help you with your next electrical project 💡

No one’s scrolling Pinterest for ventilation inspo…

But it’s one of the things that can make the biggest difference to how your home actually feels to live in.

A lot of people don’t really think about ventilation until:
• windows are dripping with condensation
• things are getting mouldy
• or rooms feel damp

The tricky part is that ventilation often needs to be thought about earlier than people expect when doing a new build or reno.

Because once ceilings are lined and spaces are closed in, your options can narrow pretty quickly.

A big part of our job is helping people think through these things before they become expensive or awkward to change later.

When we work in someone’s home or business, we know it’s not “just another job”.

It’s your space.
Your time.
And it’s often a big investment, both financially and emotionally.

While for us it might be one of several jobs in a day, we know it’s a big deal for you. That’s why reliability matters.

Reliability shows up in the seemingly small things:
⬩ Turning up when we say we will
⬩ Bringing the right gear
⬩ Communicating proactively

At the end of the day, reliability is about respect – for your time, your property and the fact that this work matters to you.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to, from the first phone call to the final touches.
