NZ Contractor magazine is a monthly magazine published principally as a membership benefit for six industry association groups including Civil Contractors NZ, Aggregate & Quarry, Crane Association of NZ, Heavy Haulage NZ and Ready Mixed Concrete Association. The magazine is available in select retail channels and Koru lounges.

Caption: Perhaps the strangest attachment offered by Aveling-Barford was this elevating conveyor belt designed for picking up windrowed material. Material is being deposited into another Aveling-Barford product, a shuttle dumper of about five cubic yards capacity.

Caption: Bringing down a bank was no problem for the all wheel drive capabilities of the Aveling-Barford 99-H. The A-B ‘Invicta’ horse logo sits proudly on the front of the frame. Noteworthy in this photo are the quaint headlights and the large steering ball joints on the front axle. The photo is dated 1952.

Caption: Last of Wooldridge’s motor scrapers and the smallest was the T-70 Cobrette. This particular example is shown in Curtiss-Wright markings as C-W carried the type over unchanged when they bought Wooldridge out. Under C-W ownership the machine was known as the model CW-28 and one example was imported into New Zealand.

Caption: M-R-S 250 haul tractor towing a Wooldridge OS-300 scraper. The OS-300 had a struck rating of 40 cubic yards and was a true monster of its day. Wooldridge’s manufacturing agreement with M-R-S ended in 1958.
