A simple upgrade for a more modern shower finish 👌

We’ve just installed this Atlantis shower niche into a ceramic shower liner — giving a clean, built-in space for shampoos and soap without needing a fully tiled shower.

A small addition that gives the shower a much more modern look.

Buying a house with a tiled bathroom? Here are 3 things I’d check as a builder 👇

1. Ask for the waterproofing documentation
Tiles and grout themselves are not waterproof. Without documentation for the waterproofing system, there’s no certainty about what has actually been installed behind the tiles or whether it was done correctly. That leaves you taking on the risk of a potentially leaking bathroom.

2. Check whether consent was required and a CCC was issued
If the bathroom work required building consent, check that it was inspected, signed off and a Code Compliance Certificate was issued. If work should have been signed off but wasn’t, you’re taking on the uncertainty of whether it actually meets the required building standards.

3. Check the tiles closely
Look for cracked or loose tiles, failing grout and silicone. These can be warning signs of movement or moisture issues underneath.

A bathroom can look great on the surface — it’s what’s behind the tiles that can become expensive.

Bit of a change of scenery from all the bathroom renovations we’ve had on the go lately!

Today we removed an old footpath to make way for a new, wider path along with a driveway extension.

The weather wasn’t on our side, but that didn’t stop us getting it done.

When comparing bathroom quotes, price is important — but so is understanding what you’re actually paying for.

A bathroom involves waterproofing, plumbing, electrical, tiling, preparation and multiple trades all working in the right order. Cutting corners in any of these areas can mean leaks, repairs and paying twice down the line.

Seen pole sheds advertised for $10,000–$15,000? One common misconception is assuming that’s the cost of a completed shed.

In many cases, that price is for the materials or shed kit only— with no allowance for ground preparation, installation, concrete, drainage, power or other site-specific requirements.
