🔨 Thinking About Renovating Your Deck? Here's What You Should Know!
With the recent influx of decking projects coming through Mersey Construction, we thought it would be a good opportunity to share some important information homeowners should know before starting a deck renovation.
✅ 1m or higher– If there's a potential fall of 1 metre or more, a compliant safety barrier is generally required.
✅ Over 1.5m high– Building consent is generally required when constructing a new deck above this height.
✅ Replacing an existing deck?– Replacing decking boards alone generally won't require consent. However, if you're substantially replacing structural components such as posts, bearers or joists, building consent may still be required, even if the deck is being rebuilt like-for-like.
Just because a deck already exists doesn't mean you can rebuild it without consent.
