Four renovations, all just finished — a heritage-listed villa on Northcote Point, a character villa in Mt Eden, a bungalow in Westmere, and a Californian bungalow in Stanley Point.

Each one started with a family who had chosen a character home because they valued what was already there, and wanted more of it. Each one ends with a house that is more fully itself than it was before — more light, more space, more connected to the garden or the view or the street it belongs to.

We are grateful for clients who trusted us with something that mattered to them.

Stanley Point on the North Shore has much interesting heritage architecture — villas that sit at the meeting point between Victorian character and early twentieth-century modernisation, harbour-view sites that have been prized for over a hundred years.

This one is now complete. It is the second project we have delivered for the same client on Stanley Point — perhaps the clearest measure of trust an architect can receive.

The renovation honours the original form of the house while realising the potential of the setting. A home this good deserves to be lived in properly.

Pop-Up Book | Westmere

Pop-Up Book is a Westmere bungalow that had once turned its back on the garden and the light. The renovation opens it up — a rear extension that continues the existing roofline so the old and new read as one form, with an interior that steps down toward the garden and pool the family had barely used.

The south-facing site was the central design problem. Every decision — where to place the new volume, how to angle the glazing, where to pull back and where to extend — was about finding the light and drawing it in.

The original house had good bones. It just needed to be let out.

The Lookout sits above Port Waikato on a site that demanded the house earn its view rather than simply point at it.

Holiday homes have a particular design discipline. They need to handle a full house over summer, the quiet weeks when it is just two people, and everything in between. The plan has to be generous enough for a crowd and comfortable enough for a couple — and it has to do both without feeling like a compromise in either direction.

This is a house designed to be returned to, year after year. Architecture for a lifetime of living.

Administrator House is a 1920s commercial building in central Auckland that had been adapted and layered over many decades. Our work was about carefully untangling those layers — returning the building to something closer to its original intention while making it genuinely liveable for the people using it now.

Some buildings carry the memory of everyone who has ever used them. That history is worth preserving.

Open + Shut | Waiheke Island | New House

2026 NZIA Auckland Architecture Award winner. 2026 HOME of the Year finalist.

A house that knows when to open and when to close. Open + Shut on Waiheke Island was designed around a single idea: a home that can breathe wide open to the landscape, or draw itself in to a private, cocooned retreat — sometimes within the same afternoon.

Black perforated metal screens filter the light like lace, shifting through the day as the sun moves. An internal garden sits at the heart of the plan, calming the climate and connecting the spaces around it.
