Green Gorilla Currently, approximately 85% of Auckland landfill waste comes from businesses. In 12 months, our facility can divert over 30,000 tonnes of waste from landfills.

Recycling and waste collection services for Auckland, Waikato & Tauranga. 🌳 For qoutes, orders and service areas visit https://www.greengorilla.co.nz/order-bag-skip/ For Transfer Station information visit https://www.greengorilla.co.nz/our-facilities/ Our company mission is to develop and provide sustainable waste and recycling solutions that maximise recovery and re-use and divert waste from Auckland landfills. In Auckland, construction and demolition produce nearly 570,000 tonnes of waste a year, roughly half the entire landfill volume and equivalent to 23,155 shipping containers of rubbish. Green Gorilla's Construction and Demolition Waste Processing Facility diverts more than 75% of incoming construction and demolition waste from Auckland's landfills. The processing facility is vital in reducing landfills and creating recycled by-products. Our wood-chipping operation turns treated wood into biofuel and untreated wood into landscaping chips and animal bedding. A plasterboard processing plant separates gypsum for use in the horticultural and agricultural sectors. Our Commercial and Industrial Waste Processing Facility is the most modern waste sorting process of its kind in Australasia, the largest in New Zealand and the only one in Auckland. This 100% electric facility can recover up to 40% of the general waste that had previously gone to landfills. We separate recyclable materials from landfill waste at our facility—recyclables like metal, cardboard and paper, glass and plastic bottles. For businesses that have been unable to sort and separate their waste, this facility will do it for them. That's about the same weight as one hundred and sixty 747 jumbo jets! Green Gorilla collects over 50,000 kg of organic waste each week. We provide a food waste collection service for businesses that cannot compost their food scraps themselves. First, we collect your compostable waste and then take it to a large-scale compost facility. Farms in the Pukekohe and Bombay areas use fresh compost to grow more food for Auckland.

♻️𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 — 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫.

From 𝟏𝟗–𝟐𝟓 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫, businesses, schools and communities across Aotearoa will be looking for opportunities to reduce waste and keep valuable resources in use for longer.

Here are 𝟓 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤:
𝟏) 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 - the best waste is the waste we don’t create.
𝟐) 𝐑𝐞𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 - sometimes the simplest solution is already in front of us.
𝟑) 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 - extending the life of products keeps resources in circulation longer.
𝟒) 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - better separation means less contamination and a better chance of materials being recovered.
𝟓) 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐛𝐢𝐧 - for businesses, a simple bin review or waste audit can uncover materials that don’t need to be going to landfill.

This year’s theme, “𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬,” is a good reminder that meaningful change doesn’t always require a complete overhaul. Start with one waste stream, one process or one habit and ask: 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫? 🤔🤔

At Green Gorilla, 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥. If your business wants to reduce waste, improve recycling or find better recovery pathways, 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦.

Small devices. Serious fire risks.
International E-Waste Day on 14 October puts the spotlight on Fast Tech—the small, inexpensive electronics that are easy to buy, replace and forget about.
Batteries and v**es may be small, but putting them in the wrong bin can have serious consequences.
As an example, Blenheim’s Waste Sorting Centre just reopened last week, almost 11 months after a discarded lithium-ion battery, suspected to have come from a v**e, caused a fire that left the building structurally damaged and a $2.5 million repair bill.
When crushed or damaged, batteries can start fires that put waste collection crews, recycling facility staff, emergency responders and the public at risk.
Whether you’re clearing out a drawer, filling a household wheelie bin or hiring a skip, keep batteries, v**es and small electronics out of general rubbish and kerbside recycling.
Looking for waste solutions for your business, we can help you with a Waste Audit or a tailored solution to meet your businesses needs.
Enquire here:
For your home here’s what you can do:
🔋 Household batteries, including button and coin cells: Tape exposed terminals and take them to a designated battery collection point. Check which types it accepts.
💨 Vapes: Keep the device intact and use a participating v**e take-back service. Check first—ordinary battery collection bins may not accept whole devices.
📱 Small electronics: Use a dedicated e-waste collection service. Your local council can help you find nearby options.
For damaged, swollen or leaking batteries, contact the collection provider for instructions before taking them in.
Find your local options:

• RecycleMap battery drop-offs https://www.recyclemap.co.nz/maps/batteries/
• VapeCycle https://www.v**ecycle.co.nz/
A small action at home or work can help protect the people handling your waste. Looking for waste and recycling solutions for your business? Green Gorilla can tailor a solution to your needs, helping you recycle more and manage your business waste. For us, landfill is the last resort, not the first port of call.

A fantastic day at the NZGBC Green Property Summit 2026 🌿🏢

It was great to see so many people from across the property and sustainability sectors come together to share ideas, challenge thinking and explore how we can create better buildings and communities for the future.

We were especially proud to see Green Gorilla CEO Elaine Morgan recognised with a Green Champion Award — a well-deserved acknowledgement of her leadership and commitment to driving more sustainable outcomes for Aotearoa.

Congratulations to Elaine, the other award recipients, and the NZGBC team for delivering another strong event. 🌿🏢

At Green Gorilla, we’re proud to be part of the conversation and to keep pushing for smarter, more circular ways of managing resources and waste across New Zealand.

Congratulations to the New Zealand Green Building Council on a sold-out Green Property Summit 2026.
Green Gorilla is proud to be supporting the Summit as Sustainability Sponsor for the third year. It is a strong fit with our sustainability approach and our ongoing work to reduce waste, recover resources, and help the construction and property sectors make better decisions about what happens to materials once they leave site.
On 11 August, more than 300 industry leaders, professionals and decision-makers will come together for a day of practical insights, discussion and connection, with an additional 50+ attending the special political panel in collaboration with the New Zealand Construction Industry Council.
The built environment has a real opportunity to reduce waste and improve recovery outcomes, but it takes practical action across the whole project lifecycle — from planning and procurement through to site separation, collections, processing and reporting.
We’re looking forward to being part of the conversation and supporting an event focused on building a more sustainable Aotearoa.
