I am the founder of Ākono mai (2022), formerly known as Ākono Consultancy (2011-2021). Ākono mai is the name of my Private Practice, based in South Auckland, New Zealand, specializing in practice-based discip
lines available to the community. In Cook Islands Māori, Ākono means to attend to, look after, care for, to observe and to honour (agreement). These principles alongside other valued principles shape and guide my identity and view of the world, hence influencing practice and services to clients under the motto: ‘VALUING YOU & YOUR POTENTIAL’
I am a qualified and registered (SWRB) Social Worker with more than 21 years' experience in the profession supporting whanau from many cultures all across Auckland. My experience includes social work practices in the area of Education; Youth Justice; Youth Development; Child Protection; Family Violence; Community services including Programme design & facilitation; Private Practice, and in a Team Leader role for an NGO. I’m passionate about supporting people and whanau to be where they want to be, and to be able to utilise my skills, knowledge, and commitment to assist them towards that reality. My practice is underpinned by multiple theories & practices such as strength-based approach, systems theory, CBT, narrative & solution focused therapies, task centred approach, crisis intervention, power control theory, faith and cultural approaches. Fees apply to the services offered to clients/whanau or to third-parties. Other alternative options or payments maybe considered by negotiation. Fee’s are charged and invoiced to the client or funding agency as per the contract. A signed written contract between myself and the client/whanau or third-party is required, after acceptance of the terms and conditions (including fees) by all parties to the contract before a service or services commences. ● Social Work & Youth Work services: $50 plus GST per hour per client or Option A
● Family Harm service: $40 plus GST per hour per client or Option B
● Supervision: $120 plus GST per hour per client
● Mentoring Programme (Individual Men's programme): $50 plus GST per 1 hour session per client. Tailored around the mentoring needs of the client.
