Chester Consultants Ltd. Your Partner in the Built Environment Since 1985, Chester Consultants has been the go to, one-stop shop for engineering consultants and designers.

A small but powerful force, we have grown to a 48 strong team of experts skilled across multiple disciplines and we have great relationships with experts in other disciplines, meaning that it doesn’t matter what you need us for – we have the know-how. Based in Takapuna and Fiji, our responsive team, led by Founder and Director Gary Chester & fellow Director Steven Rankin, pride ourselves on our start to finish service. We work with you to understand what you need; we ensure that designs are consistent, practical, and will be approved by council; and we follow through by monitoring construction onsite. In other words, we make sure that what is getting built will do what you need it to do and is made to last.

A new face for Chester in Queenstown 👋

We’re delighted to welcome Alex Hall to Chester Consultants as a Senior Planner, based in our Queenstown office.

Alex brings extensive planning experience across residential, commercial, tourism and land development projects along with something particularly valuable to our southern team: genuine local knowledge.

As a Queenstown local, Alex understands the region, its communities, and the opportunities and challenges that come with growth across Queenstown Lakes, Central Otago and beyond.

His arrival is another exciting step in the growth of Chester’s presence in the south. Working alongside Fearghal McGuinness who leads our structural engineering capability in Queenstown, Alex gives our clients and project partners even more expertise on the ground.

Together, and with the backing of Chester’s wider multidisciplinary team, they can support projects from early planning and feasibility through consenting, design and delivery.

For Alex and Fearghal, it also means continuing the difficult task of balancing work with everything Queenstown has to offer outside office hours…

We’re excited about what’s ahead for our Queenstown team.
Welcome to Chester, Alex!

Having both worked on projects in Fiji for many years, it was great to see Royce Chin and Jono McHardy on the ground and checking out some of their handy work last week. Royce and Jono spent the week visiting some of our clients, visiting past and present projects of theirs and mentoring (hanging out with) our Nadi based team.

Our new Civil Engineer Bowen out in Mitimiti on Northland’s west coast, where Chester is supporting the local marae with feasibility work.

Around Northland, a clean ute usually means you haven’t done any work.

Progress from above at our Bisset Road development in Kaikohe.

Chester has been supporting this project from the early planning and consenting stages through to detailed civil, structural, infrastructure and subdivision design, helping enable approximately 90 new homes for Te Hau Ora o Ngāpuhi.

It’s always rewarding to see the transition from planning reports, drawings and models to real progress on site, with the roading, earthworks and services now taking shape.

Site visit to the Yasawa Islands with some of our Auckland team, looking at an upcoming luxury resort and residences development.

A flight from Auckland, ferry through to the Yasawas, then a decent long boat ride to get to site.

Not a quick trip and sites like this are a long way from anywhere, which is exactly why you have to turn up in person. You don’t get a feel for the ground conditions, the access constraints or how the team is actually tracking from a Teams call.

Yes the water is as blue as it looks.

It’s internet official: Chester has moved into our new Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland office in Takapuna.

We’re still settling in and there’s a few finishing touches to go, but we’re excited to be calling Level 9, 5–7 Byron Avenue home.

The new office puts us within walking distance of Takapuna Beach, local parks, great cafés and (importantly) La Tropezienne’s pastries.

If you’re in the area, drop in and say hello.

WE’RE HIRING | STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

We’re growing our Fiji team and are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Denarau office.

At Chester, we believe in helping engineers build the judgement, confidence and experience to take increasing ownership of projects and their careers. You’ll work alongside experienced structural, civil and fire engineers, project managers and environmental specialists on projects across Fiji, New Zealand and the wider Pacific.

From resorts and commercial developments to community and infrastructure projects, you’ll gain exposure to a diverse range of work while being supported by experienced mentors and NZ Chartered Professional Engineers.

If you have 3+ years’ consulting design experience and are looking for the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you.
