Engineering Inspiration Post: Te Wero/ Wynyard Crossing Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge

On a beautiful sunny day in Auckland, strolling around Wynyard Quarter, you might come across this Engineering beauty. The Te Wero/ Wynyard Crossing Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge is a 100m long bridge able to lift via pulley system to allow watercraft passage in and out of the Viaduct Harbour.

To see the opening and closing of the bridge takes only 60-90 second and literally stops everyone in their tracks to watch such a scene.

Here at Proconsult, we are proud to be supporting our Community, so our recent design of the St Georges Rowing Clubs members club room in Panmure was a project we are excited to be a part of.

Building in a harsh environment in the Panmure Basin, consideration of durability and easy maintenance over the life of the building was priority of our client. With careful consideration to this, we are proud of our designs.

Our Kingsland Apartment Block remedial project involves highly detailed structural remedial works to an existing multi storey apartment breezeways and walkways.

The scope includes repair and strengthening of existing steel columns, beams, stair elements, and associated connections, along with durability upgrades, corrosion remediation, and reinstatement of required fire ratings to existing structural steelwork.

The works are being undertaken within an occupied apartment complex and are supported by construction monitoring and staged inspections to ensure compliance with the approved documentation and to facilitate CCC sign off.

Which means the necessity of a lot of retaining walls & drainage networks

Auckland, we have you covered!

This project in Avondale, showcases the effectiveness of tied-back anchoring systems in stabilising compromised land following a major slip - approx .12.5m wide - triggered by the extreme flood events of January 2023

For this job, we used the Platipus tied-back anchoring system, installed an adequate drainage network for the proposed retaining structures, and reinstated the collapsed deck and driveway.

This project successfully transformed a highly compromised site into a safe and durable environment for the homeowner.

Engineering & Architectural Appreciation Post 👀 🏗 ⚒

++ The Audain Art Museum, Blackcomb Mountain, Whistler, BC, Canada ++

The design of this museum is shaped by three powerful determinants: galleries exhibiting both permanent & temporary art; the beautiful but challenging site in Whistler which, although is set amongst a beautiful evergreen forest, happens to be located within the floodplain of Fitzsimmons Creek, and lastly the enormous snowfall typical of Whistler which averages nearly 40 feet annual accumulated depth.

A truly remarkable engineering & architectural feat; bold yet such a beautiful, peaceful place to be at one in nature & art.
