In a recent Studio Hours session, Delphine drew the line our Juniors keep asking about. Tweaks are part of the project. A completely new layout, where you redraw everything, is extra work, and you can charge for it.

A cardio class and a meditation session, a few metres apart.

That was one of the puzzles Rita worked through in her redesign of the Club Med Bintan gym. Two very different moods sharing one footprint meant thinking about sound, vibration, flooring and light before anything else.

Add tropical humidity, salty air and guests of every age and ability, and a simple brief gets a lot more interesting.

Ever wondered what a live client brief looks like from the inside?

This one came from Club Med Kani in the Maldives: a beach bar that had to work from afternoon into evening. Three TLDP juniors took it on, with a senior mentor reviewing their work before the client saw it.

Did you start out designing houses in The Sims? Aisyah did too.

Now real owners have chosen her design for their 30 m² garage in Soulac-sur-Mer, from the old pocket doors reused as garden doors to the reading lights built into the headboard.

Remember your first live brief? For a lot of our designers, it happened here.

Four years in, that's still the part we're proudest of. Designers early in their careers are working on real hotels with a senior mentor beside them, and some of those concepts are now being built.

Thank you to every junior designer, mentor and client who's been part of it. You're the faces in these photos, and you're the reason there'll be a fifth.

Four designers got the same London flat and the same problem: make it feel like hers, and make it work for guests. The tiles stayed. Everything else was up for debate.

From today, every proposal you finish on TLDP moves you forward.

The Junior Program now has three levels, from Junior Apprentice to Resident Designer. Each one opens up bigger projects, and you get there by delivering on time. A mentor reviews every proposal before any client sees it.
