In Japan, we take time to observe before choosing. The curve of a trunk, the balance of branches, a distinctive silhouette: certain trees catch our eye and invite us to imagine a garden around them.

Behind that presence are years of patience and care. Growers tend each tree through the seasons. Choosing one also means recognising the time and skilled hands that have shaped it.

Then comes its place in the landscape. We imagine the tree framing a view, guiding the eye or offering shade beneath which to gather.

At Maison XLS, designing a garden begins with choosing its trees.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗘

There is something beautiful in these portraits. The deep blue of the fabric, the red of the headdresses, and above all, the smiles of these women.

They are part of the Red Dao community in northern Vietnam, where textiles are an important expression of culture and identity.

Their hands, touched by blue, remind us that behind every colour there are people, gestures and stories.

At BLEUTONE, we love discovering the beauty of craftsmanship and the people who keep these traditions alive.

𝗔 𝗚𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗘

My mother recently shared these photographs with me. They brought me back to a garden in the south of France, close to where I grew up.

As a teenager, I wanted to earn my own pocket money. I began looking after gardens around our home, spending time tending to plants and learning to understand them. It was during those years that my passion for designing gardens began.

This garden has always stayed in my memory. I loved its simplicity and the way it brought together different shades of green and grey. The contrast between the foliage, the soft, rounded shapes and the more natural movement of the plants created a landscape that felt both composed and alive.

These combinations have remained with me. Even today, when I design a garden, I find myself returning to the relationship between foliage, colour and form, and to the quiet harmony they can create together.

Seeing this garden again after so many years moved me. It has grown and changed with time, yet it still holds the beauty that first inspired me.

Some places stay with us. They become part of how we see and what we create.

Through layers of planting, filtered light and carefully composed details, we sought to create moments of intimacy. Places where guests could feel sheltered, slow down and find their own sense of belonging.
