In 1991, my home burned down.
Out of that loss, I heard the Lord calling me to be a builder. I didn't have every answer, so I went out there and trusted Him. Thirty-five years and several hundred homes later, it's still one of the best decisions I've ever made, next to accepting Jesus.
I've learned a lot in that time, but one lesson stands above the rest. Most of the stress families feel during a custom build doesn't come from dishonest people. It comes from pricing a home before it's fully defined. When the plans, specifications, and selections aren't finished, the budget is only a guess, and guesses get expensive.
That's why every home we build starts with a pre-construction process. Before you sign to build, you have final plans, a detailed specification sheet, and allowances based on your real selections.
Building a home should be one of the most exciting things you ever do. Our job is to keep it that way.
