Access to safe, welcoming public spaces can transform a community. This principle is at the heart of Baltimore's Rec Rollout, a $200 million investment to rebuild and upgrade the city's aging parks, playgrounds, and recreation centers—particularly in historically underserved neighborhoods.

As part of this initiative, Floura Teeter partnered with CannonDesign to replace five long-neglected public pools: Walter P. Carter, Coldstream, Towanda, Greater Model, and Druid Hill. Reimagined as vibrant community destinations, these facilities feature modern aquatic amenities, gathering spaces, improved accessibility, and enhanced safety.

Designed as a repeatable model for future improvements across Baltimore's public pool system, these projects will help strengthen neighborhoods and expand equitable, lasting opportunities for residents to gather, learn, and stay active.

Nearly a year after its completion, Stillmeadow Peace Park’s Stone Sanctum continues to offer visitors a peaceful place for worship, reflection, and connection with nature. We recently revisited the site to see how the landscape has filled in and to experience its impact firsthand.

The Stone Sanctum was completed in 2025 as part of an earlier park master planning effort led by Floura Teeter for Stillmeadow Community Fellowship, in partnership with Nature Sacred. It has since become one of the park’s most popular features.

Previously overgrown and unused, visitors now enter this sacred space through a portal formed by salvaged tree trunks, their exposed roots creating a natural archway. Repurposed stones and logs create tiered seating around an exposed boulder, while a stone pathway leads to a secluded bench donated by Nature Sacred.

We’re excited to see the Stone Sanctum continue to support the broader vision of Stillmeadow Peace Park: connecting people with nature through thoughtful ecological restoration and community-centered design.
