Big thanks to Friends of Crab Orchard Refuge for the opportunity to work with them and add something cool here locally.
There's something new on the Homestead trail! The Friends of Crab Orchard funded a new bird blind at the lake's edge where Pelicans, Egrets, Herons, Ducks and other waterfowl are often seen. For now a couple of small trees block part of the view, but there are plans to cut them and place them in the water to provide habitat for fish and insects, which in turn should attract birds closer to the blind.
So if you haven't been on the Homestead trail recently, check it out! It's a short, easy trail that leaves from the RV parking area near the visitor's center.
