View from the Brewster… as many of you know, I tend to get a little obsessed with doing the same scene again and again. This one comes from a walk with Bromley the Dog to the lake when we ended up on the Brewster dock looking toward Lakeland. I started with a small gouache sketch, took a few photographs, then created a small charcoal, a large 36”x36” charcoal, two 8x10” oils and finally a 16x20” that is at 20 East now. All the others found homes. 🐕 🖼️ 💚 @20.east

A couple from this past summer… i had done a bunch of florals in the spring “McKenzie Inspired” and I was trying to figure out to frame them. All oils but on paper. They sat on the floor in my office/studio for at least a month. On the eve of July 4th, Bromley the dog filled with fireworks anxiety had a paper ripping party in my office/studio. She was super successful in her mission. All of the paintings torn to shreds. It took me a bit to process especially since the new frames arrived two days later. But in the scheme of things, how lucky am I that there are flowers everywhere to paint. Plus seriously, how lucky am I? Took me a little bit to shake off my little pity party. Once back at it, painting is always fun. And Bromley the Dog is the best. These are from the series “After the Dog Ate My Homework”

Finished last month and she already found a new home. Lots went into this one including the whole composition thing, getting the crazy building right & fixing so many greens. Most importantly though, lots of thinking about a couple people who had just passed as I was finishing it up. Sometimes I wonder about why I paint…. The challenge, the fun, the learning. This one was simply more. More of everything. Xxoo
