More than 15 years ago, we built this homeowner’s back deck. Recently, they invited us back for another project. This time, transforming the front of their Ingleside home.

The original cement steps were replaced with a custom-built front porch, stairs, and railing using Trex materials. The finished porch gives the entrance a completely different look while creating a more welcoming approach to the home.

And the best part is hearing how much they’re enjoying it:

“Just wanted to tell you how many people stop us and say how much they like the porch. It looks great. We love it. Thanks to all, and Josh and all the crew. It’s so my taste … more than anything I saw online.”

— Caren Haberstroh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’re always grateful when a past customer trusts our team with another project years later.

Before: exposed storage, aging wood, and a space that felt unfinished.
After: a cleaner deck, safer stairs, modern railings, and enclosed storage that blends into the structure.

This transformation shows how thoughtful carpentry can improve both appearance and everyday function with maximizing space.

A smaller deck can still make a big difference.

This Wilmette composite deck creates a clean, practical transition from the home to the backyard, with wide stairs, secure railings, and materials chosen for easier long-term maintenance.

It feels like a natural extension of the house, not an afterthought.

The view was already impressive. Reaching it was the challenge.

This Winnetka project required extensive custom carpentry to create a natural connection from the home down to the shoreline.

Every stair, landing, and deck section was built around the property itself.

Happy Independence Day from the Craiger Custom Design team.

Just finished this awesome project on the Lake Michigan shore. Stairs, rails, benches and decking all in IPE (Brazilian hardwood). Just in time for this customer to enjoy their deck for the holiday.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of all our team who worked yesterday to finish up some important projects!!
