Can You Pour 2 Inches of Concrete Over Concrete? | Denton, TX

Yes, you can, and 2 inches is typically the minimum practical thickness for a bonded overlay. The catch is the slab underneath. It has to be structurally sound, cleaned and roughened so the new layer bonds and the two act as one.

If the old slab is settling, heaving or badly cracked, a thin overlay usually cracks the same way. Small cracks under about 1/4 inch with flush edges are generally fine once filled. Plan for the 2 inch rise at doors, garage entries and drains too. These are practitioner figures, so have a builder confirm your slab first.

What Is the Best Time of Year to Build a House in Decatur, TX?

Fall, with late spring a close second. But the reason has almost nothing to do with what it feels like outside.

Wise County sits on Western Cross Timbers clay, and that soil moves vertically as much as two to three inches between a wet spring and a dry August. Pour a foundation against fully swollen ground and the soil shrinks away underneath it later. Pour against dried, fissured clay and it swells back against the slab. Either way, the slab spends its life fighting movement nobody specified it for.

In October and November that moisture sits mid-range, which is the whole ballgame. And only the early stages of a build care about the season anyway. Once a house is dried in, interior work runs the same in January as in June.

Texas does not license either role at the state level, so the words alone verify nothing. What does verify: insurance certificates, workers' comp, a real address, and permit history with the City of Decatur. 📋
