OUT WITH THE OLD. IN WITH THE STRONGER FOUNDATION!

NEW PROJECT KICKOFF — PURGATORY, COLORADO

Another day, another mountain construction project for the True Grit Concrete & Excavation crew!

We’re kicking off a new project near Purgatory Ski Resort, just north of Durango, tearing out the old concrete piers to make way for brand-new footings and piers that will support a steel deck.

Today’s mission: DEMOLITION!

We’re removing the old concrete and preparing the site for a new foundation designed to support the deck for years to come.

Because whether you’re building a custom home, a mountain retreat, or a steel deck, what’s underneath matters just as much as what’s on top.

And up here in the Colorado mountains, proper foundations are especially important with our freezing temperatures, snow loads, and challenging terrain.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MOST HOMEOWNERS DON’T THINK ABOUT — RADON GAS.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It’s invisible, odorless, and can enter homes through foundations and openings around the structure.

Colorado has some of the highest radon potential in the country.

Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels increases the risk of lung cancer. In fact, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States after smoking.

That’s why we’re taking the time to incorporate a radon system into this build.

By installing radon collection piping and a gravel layer beneath the future concrete slab, we’re creating a pathway for soil gases to be collected and safely vented through a properly completed system.

Because building a quality home isn’t just about what you can see. It’s about protecting the people who will live inside it.

SOMETIMES THE FASTEST WAY TO DO IT RIGHT… IS TO SLOW DOWN.

Another pour day for the True Grit crew on this large landscape project in Bayfield, Colorado.

Today we’re working through the decorative stamped-concrete patios and walkways—and with this much edging, detailed line work, transitions, and stamping, we’re not trying to pour everything at once.

We’re breaking this project into three separate pours.

Why?

Because decorative concrete doesn’t care how fast you want to finish.

Once that truck shows up, the clock starts. Breaking the work into sections gives our guys the time they need to properly place, finish, edge, detail, texture and stamp each section without sacrificing the finished product.

Slow it down. Get the details right. Let the finished product speak for itself.

This is only one piece of a much larger landscape transformation we’re working on here in Bayfield. Stay tuned—the finished stamped concrete is going to completely change this property.
