Power lines are also down. Traffic control has been established in the area. Avoid this area!

Wildfire Now 80,000 Acres…

The fire has expanded overnight to 80,000 acres now. Plus, a noticeable wind change with the weak front arriving. Winds out of the Northwest has stopped the North movement and fire is now moving South/Southeast. Winds gusting to 20-25mph at times and still only 12% containment.

A collective effort of fire agencies throughout Young County, were able to push into Palo Pinto County at the Young County line around FM 1191 and SH 16 S and stop the advancement of the Ross Fire from entering Young County. At the moment, Young County is clear of fires.

The Hawk Fire near Peavine Peak has grown to 13,000 acres, 0% contained, threatening northwest Reno. As of Aug 23:
- 42,000 under evacuation orders

- Fire near UNR campus
- 6 injured
- Multiple structures destroyed
- National Guard deployed
- 10,000 without power

What started as a small brush fire on Peavine Peak yesterday has exploded into the Hawk Fire - 13,000 acres, 0% contained, racing from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest straight toward northwest Reno.

🚁 Nevada National Guard activated - 60 troops + 2 helicopter crews for aerial attack and securing evacuated neighborhoods

One family told AP they watched on a lagging fire app thinking they were safe - then flames came down the hill like an oven blast. They grabbed their dogs, a Bible, wedding photos and their mother's ashes and ran. Hours later their home was gone - only a basketball hoop left.
