The heat this summer has been tough on aerobic systems so here are a few tips to hopefully help yours survive the next few weeks
1. Clean the grass and leaves from around your air pump. You want as much air flow as possible to keep it cool.
2. Clean or replace the air filter located in the top of the aerator. Keep that air flowing!
3. Clean or replace the diffuser inside your tank. This one is a little more difficult for homeowners but it should be done annually to prevent high back pressure that can damage the pump (if you’re having your aerator go out every summer, this is probably your problem!)
Finally, here’s what to do if you get an alarm:
If your control panel has two lights and the amber (or yellow) light comes on, mute the alarm using the switch on the front. Listen or feel for your air pump. If it’s running, check all the hoses are attached and don’t have any damage. If it’s not running, wait overnight. Some of the air pumps have a high temp shutoff and it may reset when temps drop. An air alarm won’t hurt anything to wait and it may save you an unnecessary service call. If it’s still not working by morning you need to get it serviced.
If your control panel has a single light, listen or feel for your air pump. If it’s running, check all the hoses are attached and don’t have any damage. If no issues are found, it’s probably a high water alarm. If it’s not running, you may want to wait overnight. The only issue is that it could also be a high water alarm and waiting could cause a backup. So, you need to be certain it’s only the air pump by verify the water level is normal. Some of the air pumps have a high temp shutoff and it may reset when temps drop. An air alarm won’t hurt anything to wait and it may save you an unnecessary service call. If it’s still not working by morning you need to get it serviced.
One last thing, Hiblow is now offering high heat rebuild kits. They cost a little more but we are switching to them whenever we can.
